Its nice to see i,m not the only one who made the jump from Tanks to boats,and perhaps back again,
when I started out with tanks,HL were,nt around,so it had to be the more expensive Tamiya,s,my 1st one was the early Production model,then i got a KT,then HL came on the market,and they were a revelation,justwhat we needed,"cheap as chips" tanks,ok, the early one,s were,nt just right,like the Tiger having the mantlet fitted upside down,like in the pics of the one on here,the rangefinder,i.e. the 2 holes side by side were on the right as you look at the tank from the front,but give them their due HL soon started producing what Tamiya could,nt,
and now the latest model of the Jagdpanther,is right up there,as is the Matorro KT,change its barrel and you,re off,
here are some pics of my 1st Tiger-1, a Tamiya, and one of my last,which is seen playing in the snow,
its a 1/6th by the way,

Get on to the 1/6 or even 1/4 if you are brave Wasyl... great fun. My latest project is a WW2 Matilda at 1/2 scale . once the bug bites , then bigger is always better.

:}Hi Rob, get into 1/6th mmm,my Tiger in the snow is a 1/6th,Its a Field of Armour,with Armortek upgrades,i.e.metal hatches,cupola, exhaust covers,side skirts,full Tamiya sound modules,2 x 350w chaindrive motors,running on 24v,one of the figures is an animatronic,
others i have had have been the Mark-1 Kingtiger, see pics,
I,m winding down now and getting more into boats

ok.. out of the henlong range of 1/16 tanks which one does everyone rate as the best/ or a good buy ?-

i have a 1/16th russian t34 tank bought at a continetal model show - ,
(its good but its not henlong- so it needed lots of modifications and option packs to bring it up to the standard i was looking for..)

i am thinking of getting another tank to battle with, can anyone recommend a henlong item to fit the bill ?

Very impressive Wullie, especially the damage to the anti-magnetic paste - I visited the 'Musee Des Blindes' (French National Armoured Vehicle Museum) located just outside Samaur while on holiday in the Loire, France last year and saw Tiger/Konigstiger/Conqueror and many others - what a collection they have - most of their tanks are also functional - spent 6 hours there but my camera batteries were flat

I visited Bovington many years ago. Is your fine winter Tiger B/Bulge or Eastern Front?

Hi Martin, Yes it the slatted stuff trowelled on to prevented magnetic explosive mines/dvices being attached to the tank hull by attacking infantry. As far as I can remember this was a German practice I don't think allied armour ever employed this paste - it hardened soon after application so it was concrete like and bonded to the hull. I seem to remember reading that it was never particularly effective. The attacking infantry use to improvise - smother their exlosive devices in loads of heavy grease (sticky bombs) and then place them tracks/turret ring. A book called 'The Forgotten Soldier' is a moving autobiographical account of war on the eastern front from the German point of view - everyday heroism in appalling circumstances.

One of my favourites is also the Wooden Wonder, lovely pr in DH museum.

Hi Martin,the slatted stuff, is called zimmerit,the Germans made it from sawdust and plaster, then applied it to their tanks,but as Perkas,says it was,nt very effective,On my tank its Decorators caulk,this tank was a kit,and the winter camo is from the Eastern Front,1943/44,
This model is abit of a bitsa,the bottom hull is a late production Tiger,and the turret is from an early production,during the latter stages of the war,the Germans,used whatever they could,to keep these mighty beasts going,my modelis modelled on one i saw in a book in the Panzer Museum at Munster/Germany,this one has 2 x 350w wheel chair motors fitted running on 24v
And the sound system is a recording of the Kingtiger that is in Saumur,

Hi, me and Domonic have one of these henglong tanks each , snow leopard and a tiger , but I can`t remember where it is that you fill the smoke units from ?

does any of you know?

Me and Domonic usually have a battle with these at the weymouth campsite (weymouth model boat festival) in the evenings fireing the BB pellets from them at each others tanks - the odd one sometimes hits delboy in shorts - he loves it and laughs with us - I think not!

These Hen Long tanks seem very good value for money in comparison with other manufacturers. They are reasonably well detailed but how about the quality of the mechanicals and radio gear?

Mine has the metal tracks and metal gearboxes.

The radio is 27meg with changable crystals, dont know about the range, but how far away are you going to be.

My son has one as well and the two work quite happily side by side.

Some of the sound affects aren't quite as good as Tamiya, but you are paying a hell of a lt less.

Many thanks for the links Richard these prices won't cause a divorce. Tamiya pricing is OTT irregardless of the quality. This chinese manufacturer has realised that a real quality product competitively/reasonably priced can sell well even in this difficult time and they are also making a good profit. Tamiya are following a typical Japanese ploy of 'pricing/milking to the hilt' - plus spares/extras - they've finally got a comuppance - competition, and a lot more modellers can enjoy/access this fascinating branch of modelling.
