hello gents,
I built this tug yrs ago , when my shed burnt down, and I needed a simple design,as no tools, and i need the theorpy of the build , to smooth still frayed nerves
I never did get it to go right, and some unkind modellers called it the floating toilet!! not too my face !!
i never tried a 555 or better motors ,it was always under powered, w a slow reving telecom motor, only about 1000/1500rpm

what ,  i wanted too do was fit a barge on the front, w the larger battery in the barge, I had photos of a cat pontoon dredge to carry the battery,a small dredge.
also , has any-one though of building the original mother control tower , w 2 moto flotes on each side , all good food for thought, if this was done , the seperate flotes could be removable , or joined permanently to the mother control tower.
if I can get time , i will re-build my original moto flote
regards bill S

Another Motorflote man...excellent!

I'm building a Lighter for mine to push around, hadn't thought of building the control tower though. Could be interesting, although the lack of photos and information would make it hard work.

A couple of magnets on the stern of the barge and a steel plate on the pusher pods on M'Flote or vice versa and
you have an easy coupling without the risk of one dragging
the other under.
You can then let the barge drift out and go and collect it with M'flote and everyone will think you are a Master Flote Mariner and worship your shiphandling skills.

Hi,

Has anyone got a copy of the original magazine?

I am sure the picture of the main unit and smaller units where in it.

I have the original magazine, plan and build article...there is a photo of the main control unit, but it's only a small picture, doesn't show a lot of detail. I'll scan it in a minute and post it here...

gday rickles ,
you are right, the original mag has a photo of the stern of the mother barge , showing the 2 moto flote drive units, but no details of OAL or beam , or what they carried
there was some discussion on 1 of the pages about deck lift plates , possible these were the hook up points for the mother ship??
I should have the mag at home , but not the ability to post the photo

I'm waiting for "Motorflote - The Movie" to go on general release - I haven't missed it have I?

Seriously, love the build and all the comments.

I have been following this avidly.  Can't wait to see how such a compact yet deep hull performs on the water.

If it's anything like it's predecessor, it'll be slow, wandering off on it's own course, and bouncing about like a duck on acid  %) My first one refused to obey commands from the tx, and would happily trundle off across the lake going where it wanted to go. They really are comical things on their own the water, but when pushing something, they really come into their own.

They all need something to push.
Mine was exactly the same without
a barge.

A vessel type known as the Articulated Tug-Barge (ATB) is very popular in the U.S. coastal trades. Some of the tugs are almost unmanageable when not attached to their barges. - Tom
