Did anyone check the width of the bridge ahead I know they checked the height

just an aside comment, why do they build things that big, where they then have to transport it through tight spaces and up winding roads, can they not design and build it, test it, take it apart in sections and then transport it, its like Eurobus planes, they transport sections through the french countryside through winding roads and tight villages to the assemble it in a plane factory with a runway, why didn't they build the factory and runway closer to a port to allow for easier transport, or build a bigger plane than the russian AN225 to transport lots of bits - beggers belief

So warspite asks.......

"just an aside comment, why do they build things that big, where they then have to transport it through tight spaces and up winding roads'?

I think the simple answer or reason = Politics ...you vote for us/me.......& we guarantee xyz2 jobs in your Community

Remember the Space Shuttle..... <:(

[she'll be right...just use a big o-ring to seal both sections] - [the last time such a concept was used in that application]

I suspect this has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with the most efficient and therefore most cost effective way of transporting such a large load.  Almost all marine engine manufacturers have access to water and all shipbuilders by their very nature have access to water.  Therefore almost all marine propulsion engines are transported by barge from the manufacturer to the yard.  They are then craned off the barge and directly into the ship as it is being built.

Although this could be a marine engine there is also a very strong possibility that this could be a shore based installation for something such as a power station back up or a large industrial complex.  As for road transportation the route will be carefully evaluated as regards dimensions to the millimeter and even the load bearing capabilities of the roads and bridges before deciding on whether it can be done or not.  If it is not possible then the engine will be dismantled and reassembled on site.

You are 100% spot on here BB :-)) ........this is a MAN diesel engine built in Germany.....transported by sea from Germany to the Port of Darwin in Australia for an electrical generation plant in Alice Springs .....

[At first I assumed in the USA, but the Number Plate of the first MACK prime mover has NT Plates & is RH drive ]

I will try & get some images ...BTW.....certainly nothing to do with space shuttles of Politics  :embarrassed:

The big giveaway is that 'Kingston Heavy Haulage' are based in St Mary's, New South Wales.

I know that engine well, my last ship was fitted with five of them.

I understand that - usually the subject of a Quest channel extreme movers program, but there is always some issue when the program runs that a corner is too tight or a hill too steep or overhanging branches damaging the load etc.

Now back to random captions  :-))

That's because its a TV program, aimed at people who believe everything they see on TV.
