The receiver is the card.  It just comes in a case.  Assuming a standard type of model receiver, it will use the appropriate crystals for the band that it operates in.

Thanks for the reply
I want to change the band as they all seem to work on 27.145 and I thought i could just solder another crystal in but cannot identify the crystal on the printed circuit so that I can change it. Any ideas./

It sounds like you have an RTS boat.

It is usual for them to be nominally tuned to the middle of the 27Meg band, but they often don't use crystals for tuning, relying on the use of inductor, capacitor and resistance.

It is usually cheaper in the long run (because it works) to buy a complete replacement radio set with all the appropriate bits included, and go that way.  These normally have a transmitter, receiver, a pair of servos, crystals and a battery box.  You have to find the batteries and usually a speed control - sometimes you can get a deal where you get one servo but have an ESC included.

Malc
Your dead right.
The two boats I have are the same with 2 x 380 motors which I believe I will need 2 esc but some one says I also need a mixer.
I don't have rudders etc. I was hoping to keep the cost down. Do you know what the mixer does.
I have the other things you mention, transmitter, receiver, crystals and two servose. are the servose only used if I had rudders
Glen.
No wonder I coudn't find the crystal in the receiver

Do you know what the mixer does.

It's just amazing what you can find on Mayhem. Try this link:

It's the motors that steer your  model all of the time, so just pretend the rudder servo isn't there in any of the diagrams.
Works for many, but suit yourself.
