Any negative feelings I might just possibly want to express would probably break my employers social media policy. So I will just say I am absolutely positive in what I think about HS2 !

No problem, nuclear power stations are being reintroduced and long cables are being produced to cope.  :D

A letter writer to the 'Scotsman' (6/11/13), whom I quote below in abridged form, suggested:-

"A far more sensible suggestion was made by the Labour MP Kelvin Hopkins, Tesco, Sainsbury and hauliers to re-open the Great Central Line which was closed by the Tories in the 1960s.
It is still almost intact except for a 50 mile stretch between Calvert and Leicester. All of its infrastructure of trackbeds, bridges, embankments and cuttings are still there.
The Great Central Line ran from London to Rugby, Leicester, Nottingham, Sheffield and Leeds with a branch to Manchester - basically the same as the HS2 proposal except without all the compulsory purchases of homes and factories and misery caused by HS2.
The old line was built to Continental loading gauge, meaning lorries could piggyback onto its trains ion a roll-on/roll-off service.
The Group that proposed it estimated it would cost £6 billion, saving at least £46 billion."

If this is correct, are we once again re-inventing the wheel?

Don't need to send the tractor units with them, at the depots you could have three wheeled tractor units to - -  -

Best to get out the tin hats lads - it seems that the GOCE satellite, having run out of juice, is returning.  But nobody is sure just where.  It weighs about a ton, it is expected that about 200 pounds of it will survive the drop.  For the moment, there is live tracking on here - http://www.foxnews.com/science/interactive/2013/11/08/track-europe-falling-2000-pound-satellite-in-real-time/  for those interested.

as you say Colin, a superb read........and the one poignant recollection I have about it all which stands out above all the other horrors of the night in December was that the survivors, being picked up by an old drifter were singing a song, of the same name.......Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do!

I read it when I was about 15 and thought of the bravery and camaraderie of those poor sailors above all adversity, and in 1990 I achieved a lifelong ambition of taking a trip on a boat out to the wreck sight in Scapa Flow.......a trip that made a grown man cry openly.

will never forget that day as long as I live.

Not the first time we (as a hobby in the public's eye) have received bad press for the actions of a few irresponsible model boaters. This is from 2009.

Never one to leap to the defence of this twonk, but it is clearly summer, trees being in full leaf, no public about, so its a week day. he's not running during a busy weekend with the pedalos out and children round the edge of the pond crabbing. He isnt aiming at the swans, who are in their usual position waiting to be slowly poisoned by members of the public irresponsibly feeding them bread, despite the signs around the lake advising against this....but, this individual,if it is who I think it is, considers the lake his own, and does not react well to criticism. I feel for the members of the club whose running times he occupies, and understand that it is difficult for them to deal with the problem. not helped by the small minority of local nimbys and their councillors, always looking to stir the pot with a well aimed letter to the local rag. This time with a video clearly showing the impending peril the swans face, with this model clearly going nowhere near them.

Its not what happens that matters, its what's perceived to be happening that causes the problems!
