When the park first opened some of us local boat modellers were commissioned to build R/C kits as one of the lakes was to be used for model boating demos. They spent a lot of money and had a huge model of one of the Cunard Queens too. It didn't last long though, predictably. I managed to blow a couple of the new Graupner electronic speed controllers during my build, they were not very tolerant pieces of kit but they still cost around 70 each!

Sadly thorpe park doesnt have  any good model boats anymore, just the small coin op affairs for you to fill with pound coins !- the models of the eiffel tower and other world wide  icons are long gone too....
