Completely reconstruction of Tug JAN from Robbe
« on: November 01, 2014, 03:42:58 PM »

Jan has been tucked away in a uninsulated attic for 10 years and needs a complete overhauling.
The tug weighs 18-19 kg and the existing hull (ABS plastic)could not handle the weight , now the hull is reinforced with three layers of fiberglass.
Before JAN was in Switzer livery. This time it will be original colors, from the time the tug was owned by Petersen & Alpers in Hamburg,

After laying the planks stern, I have chosen to do the same amidships below the tow hook and on the upper deck over the wheelhouse.

Alan......

1. were you annealing the brass [1/16" diameter] wire? before bending @ 90 degrees for the port light protection bars
2. what type of wood glue did you use for the construction of the rope storage box's......[which look very square & neat :-))]

Thank you Guys.  %%
1. I don't know the word annealing. But I hope this is the answers you want. No i do not warm it up before bending,
2 The glue is on waterbase for outdoor, thin with water 1: 5. uploading Picture later in the day.

Annealing is softening the brass before forming. Heat to required temp then let it cool again. Brass becomes more malleable.

There is some very outstanding work you have done here. I love the idea of the pipe bender made from skate bearings.
