Haven't got the pictures to hand but took mine out - it was very choppy, I had to bring the Aziz in before it did a "Kenny"

The highlander does sway a lot in the waves - alarmingly so. I had water on the decks with mine ballasted onto the waterline. I winder if it has more to do with the shape of the boat - the bulk of the weight of mine is below the waterline.

I think its the shape of the hull and the white-metal parts. Maybe Mountfleet Models should change them to resin. The wheelhouse is very heavy  ???

Hi Jan......
Hmmm! Not good.  :(
Did you you try It without the wheelhouse to see if it made any difference?

What are other peoples experiences of ballasting the Mountfleet Highlander Puffer?

Martin.

Nice looking Puffer Jan.
I am so jealous need to get on with mine. All the  pictures I have seen of a puffer they always seem to be very low in the water, up to the top rubbing strip. Heaven knows what they were like in heavy seas. I do think the superstructure and the wheelhouse are a bit on the heavy side, well they are on my Sealight. The superstructure is quite a thick grp moulding.

The wheelhouse alone weights 0.77 Kg  :o

Willy has the puffer again, some more lead will be placed low in the hull. Hope this might help a bit  O0

Jan

I had a look at the plans for my puffer (Sealight) and the water line is just below the angle of the top rubbing strip. Where is the water line for your pufer shown on the plans?

Little update: Today i trim the Puffer with lead.

Today: Waterline trim = lead-Akkus (4880gr) + lead rolled plate (2250gr)

What do you say?

What is the problem Martin.... I something wrong made?

The wheelhouse has a weight of ca. 750 gram.... additional load approx.. ca. 7150 gram.... this results in one puts up quotients of 1:9 (theoretically)

I have the ship extremely on the side put (waterlinie to scarce under freeboard)... it straightened up fast again, without one drip water to have on board taken

The biggest problems are now sorted out (again thx. to Willy). Today we made some seatrials, the new and better esc is not overheating and Willy was able to trimm down the Puffer, even on sharp turns she sails very well and very stable now  O0 ;D

Added more weight, replaced the esc. Next thing to be done is the smoke generator, he needs a fan to work better  ;)

The Hunter System Generator is good, he produces a great amount of smoke. He only needs some help of a small fan for example  O0
