Turning into a bit of a THUG never mind tug

Many of the tools employed. The FLAT square is fairly recent but proving its worth.

Today I finally received some ladders from Modelboatbits. Royal Mail delivered today on the 22nd an item that was postmarked 14th first class  %%  Steve was first class and posted more out yesterday. I will post them back at my cost, not his fault.

Anyway my current problem is that they REALLY are ladders so contrary to my intention I cannot use them as stairs. NO way could anyone go down these facing forwards as there is nowhere to place a heel. They are as described ladders and that means going up and down facing them. So unfortunately for me they are redundant (keep them for stock)

So it looks like I will have to make all the companionway stairs on this build from scratch  :((

I've managed to find stock of Plastruct stairs. These are like fairy dust but I found them at the same shop in London where I got the Lobster boat.
29mm wide by 300 long 1:32 stairs  8)

Come up trumps twice  :-))  https://hobby.uk.com

Andy,

That's really starting to look good. It's going to be a beast on the water.

Blimey Andy,
Your fairly getting on with it.
Have you done a propulsion test?
It would be interesting to see the drives in action.

Thanks Ant

My attempt to ballast last week failed due to a badly fitted bow thruster leaking.
This is now sealed in a much simpler fashion and removal only requires a scalpel

I've just tested everything dry on the bench and found one steering servo has and internal mechanical fault, it rotates freely clockwise but very high resistance anticlockwise.
I ran both props to full speed and they make one hell of a draft  %%

Anyway tomorrow I'll try again to establish full displacement weight and I can run one motor to find full load current.
I'm temporarily using a Spektrum radio and the bow thruster is on Aux 3 pos switch B

Thank you Howard. To be honest it is much easier than the Portgarth was which is all plywood.
The bonus being styrene will paint much easier and creates a bit less dust in the making.

Andy I never use any thing but plastic as you say but to paint but then some will always say ply's best  only thing I have learnt is I now always scrape my joints where I can  and not sand if I can help it.

Some excellent crisp work there Andy, Ply or Plastic I really can't decide I've used both some times a mixture of,  Being a Carpenter by trade I do like working with wood, on the other hand you don't get grain problems with plastic.

Thank you Joe and Howard. Really anything that works or a combination of both  O0

Cannot win really. Butts told me that while Portgarth was on show at Doncaster one punter refused to believe she is wood  {-)

I suppose that should be taken as a complement but on the other hand I know wood is more than twice the effort and time? so maybe not.

I've tried styrene cement again and I still find it crap as it takes far too long to set and hold reliably.

Tank test postponed today due to rain. Should be ok tomorrow.

I added braces here and prepared for the staircase, should arrive Monday.

The exhausts now have a larger diameter detachable styrene oversleeve

I made the crane support

That's all today

The hull as pictured here with drives installed is stern heavy and 11kg. With deck furniture and bow fixed ballast I hope to keep it to 15kg max.

This is what I had to add to get to the waterline. 11.5kg of water and 11.5kg of lead

The bow thruster is almighty powerful! Makes Raboesch seem completely pathetic in comparison.

Unfortunately my clip on DC ammeter failed me but for sure the ESC's are fine.
I will buy an inline tester for next time.

I won't need a sound module  :-)

Good morning and thank you Brian. Best wishes for you brother. I see my club mate has acquired your Maltby, I'm very envious  :embarrassed: . I hope we can see you building again before too long.

EDIT

Bonjour ,

This tugboat is superb , it is a a Robert Allan design like my RMT PENFRET which is 32m long . I built this tugboat at 1:32 . the difference is your choice For 180° with your schottles and I chose the 360° obtion for my tugboat .

Good luck for the rest of the building .

Merci Marco  :-)

I quite like this idea that allows this to be treated as a sub assembly to add at the end of the build during final assembly with a dab of silicon.

It only remains to finish this with satin lacquer

@£7.80 per length I think this represents good value compared to other options.
Please do not introduce 3D printing as an option  %%

Bearing in mind that these are stairs and not to be confused with ladders. 1:32 scale

Unfortunately they only make this scale 29mm wide which happens to be suitable for most of my model but not for access to the wheelhouse.

I have put one through the band saw and stuck it back together at 22mm wide.
Will be fine when painted.
