Wow Andy that phone of yours certainly takes great photo's, unfortunately highlighting my rubbish silver soldering -
but we are looking at a work in progress with lots of filing, sanding and filling to do,
before we think about reaching for the paint.
The model is a Canadian Log Dozer or Boom Boat, built to Action Man/Dragon figure 1/6 scale -
around 36 inches length, 15 inch beam, deck stands 12 inches above the keel -
it's a really chunky model and will weigh?? I dread to think - the real boats decks are awash when in use,
therefore a ton of church roof required !
The angled rubbing strips on the model are fibreglass mouldings - I glued a 1/2" triangular balsa single master rail
around one half of the hull, filled and painted it, covered it in brown gloss parcel tape and took moulds off it in 3 sections
front, centre and back.
These were used to cast 8 fibreglass rubbing strips padded out with sections of balsa triangle to help fill out the moulds
(the striped sections in the photos) this was a real pain, taking an age to produce.
I would have preferred to use a Sidewinder outboard style drive leg, but after enquiring on various Forums -
Graupner drives lacked reliability and size, and I didn't relish the idea of shelling out £500 on a Bauer unit,
therefore settled for traditional dive and a Ministeve thruster in the style of the boat in the attached photo.
I intend fitting a Forge Electronics sound unit, home made smoke generator and make the driver operational
turning the steering wheel etc.
