Corona 2.4Ghz Replacement Aerial
« on: September 03, 2019, 10:28:35 pm »

Hi,

A while back I converted my F14 TX to be dual frequency with the addition of a Corona 2.4Ghz DIY kit, I detailed the build here:

https://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,52395.msg549580.html#msg549580

This has worked really well until the aerial for the Corona unit broke, does anyone know exactly which screw on black aerial this system uses as I am tired of buying incompatible ones

Hi Alex,

Post of pic of the antenna socket - likely RP-SMA- is it male or female?

Does it look like this

if it is anything like their module for the futaba radios (see picture) then you need to get an "RP-SMA" style antenna... like the following:

Hi Alex

Just read the detail (see below) on the CoolComponents website - this could be a factor in the frustration  of getting a correct replacement- however both are available

Quote
The FCC is moving towards Part 15 compliance.
All this means is that all the SMA RF connectors are changing gender. Really annoying for those of us who need to mate an antenna to an RF device.

The FCC gender change was instituted to prevent home users from damaging RF equipment (think home WiFi) when screwing on an antenna.
If all antennas are female, there is no way to damage the center connector.

Alex,

I guess from your comments it was the qulaity of the product at fault and not the user (!)

I have several from Cool Components that have survived some years

Have a look on Amazon...quite a few different ones - this is just an example

Hi C-3PO,

Yep, I may be ham fisted but this was a quality issue  {-)

Many thanks for the link, I will have a closer look tonight when I have the TX in front of me
