The Tamiya driver kit came yesterday, it fitted together quite well, I had to do a bit of surgery to his arms to suit the position in the Landy and I've been having fun with what started out to be something just to cover all the wiring etc. the card base is still very basic but I've added a bit more detail, is it me or dose the driver look like Liam Neeson.
Nearly finished now but I wasn't happy with the number plates I made with vinyl lettering, the only black ones I had were 6mm and really need to be 8mm so I'll try again and make some water slide transfers.

Hi Kiyo Thank you for your interest and kind comment, I've really enjoyed this project and quite pleased with the result, I'm just trying to make some number plates to finish it off.

So to finish off the project I've got the number plates done after a bit of trial and error to get the size of the water slide transfers right I finally got a pair of reasonable looking plates.

That looks amazing, can I make a wee suggestion tho. The centre nuts for the wheels, maybe get some black ones?

Something like these:-

Have a look around and you can probably get them a little cheaper

Thanks Mark but compared to your build this was pure simplicity.

I bought some black flanged lock nuts and yes they do blend in better the silver ones stand out and look off scale,, then I found some hubs in my odds and ends box left over from another kit build after cutting them down to a suitable length I found they were a nice tight fit over the wheel nuts I think they finish off the wheels nicely and from memory they look a bit like the ones on the series 3 Landy I had back in the eighties though I did have manual free wheeling hubs on the front.

Hi Joe;
You are so lucky to find unexpectedly better looking hubs in the odds and ends box.!! O0 :-))
The "new"hubs are really nicely blended in the wheels.!!

In my case of Toyota FJ-cruiser,I used hexagon cap nuts for both good looking and retightening the wheels during trail-run.
Flanged lock nuts in the kit were certainly not good for scale appearance.!! {:-{

Thanks for your comments Kiyo, the cap nuts you used do look good far better than the stock flanged nuts, and your Toyota is a very nice bit of kit  :-))

The under side of the CC01 chassis has a lot of recesses and obstructions to catch on twigs, grass, rocks etc. the front end of the suspension arms in particular, so I thought I would make an under pan to cover most of it, yes you can buy ready made skid plates but where's the fun in that, the ready made ones use the same mounting points as the front end of the lower suspension arms but I'm taking my plate further to the rear and using the mounting points meant for the medium wheel base chassis and the screws will have spacers on them to keep the plate level, so far I've made a card mock up/template and ordered some alloy plate.

Hi Joe;
I understand that you are making mostly full cover under pan for fear of catching on various twigs ....
Once I used to think so,but I also thought such a large pan might be likely to reduce a ground clearance which was
,as you know,very important to go on rocky or other rough terrains...in my case particularly.
That's why I made the under guard as little as possible as shown in the pics not to affect largely the ground clearance in my case.
Instead,I added" the floor "around the chassis for easy cleaning after each run. {-)

That really does look great Joe. I must do some more work on mine but I've been spending time back on the boats again. Also it's the painting that's going to hold me up. I've got a garage but it's full of my motorbikes!

Hi Chris I did spray paint in my garage but your right it was too cold and caused me problems but luckily I got over it, If I had the choice between a garage to paint in or full of motorbikes it would be a no brainer   O0

The alloy sheet came this morning so job done, I'm not too worried about ground clearance I don't do rock crawling and actually the bottom of the front and rear axles are still below the plate but as far as the ground clearance between axles the plate is only 5mm below the rear suspension arms,  now can't decide whether to paint it black or leave as is, it dose stand out a bit so I'll probably black it out.

Hi all I haven't been doing much lately but another birthday has come and gone and the result is another very nice kit to tinker with, the Tamiya Ford Escort 4WD Custom, on the TT-02 chassis, I knew the missus ordered it 6 weeks ago so I've been collecting a few alloy upgrade parts, the truth is for how I use my rc cars the stock plastic parts would have been fine but where's the fun in that and they do add a bit of bling,
I guess the old Escort fits the Nostalgia title,  a build log for this type of bolt together model is a bit boring so I'll just pop a photo up when finished for any one who's interested

Well it was quite a quick build but very enjoyable all the alloy upgrade parts fitted quite well with a few mods to gain more ground clearance and the interior I did last month fitted ok and finishes the model off nicely, now I've got to think of something else to do otherwise SWMBO will have me redecorating  {:-{ <*<
