IJN Kirishima - Model Boats Feb 2015
« on: October 20, 2023, 02:17:03 pm »

Does anyone have a copy of this MB issue, and specifically the plan that was included? If so, would you be willing to provide a copy of the plan? Any costs incurred would, of course, be reimbursed.

My 11 year old grandson is very enthusiastic about modelling a Japanese warship. He wanted to start with a model of the Yamato but I've managed to talk him down to a destroyer as a more suitable vessel for his second model. The Glynn Guest "Kirisame" is an ideal choice and, although the magazine is available on the internet, no-one is selling the plan, that I can find.
Thanks.

I have the magazine and plan, but not sure how I can copy the plan to send it to you. Would a photo of the plan be sufficient?

Hi Dave,
My apologies for not replying to you earlier. "Things' got in the way of checking this request.
If you have a local print shop who can scan the plan into a digital file (preferably pdf), that would be my preference. You can then email it to me and I can then take that it to my local print shop and print it off. The alternative would be to scan it to a print  and post it.
A photo is not really suitable because I would like to have a full size copy of the plan for my grandson to work to.
I can make payment of your costs either by mailing you a cheque, or by a direct electronic transfer to your bank account. (I am in Canada).
Thanks,
Roy

The only print shop in town has closed, I will ask around and see if there is anything nearby.

Thanks, Dave, that would be appreciated.

If you would consider it, you could send the original plan to me, I will get it scanned here, and then return it to you? I fully understand if you prefer not to let it out of your control.

I'll dig it out and check the condition it's in. All of my magazines are stored indoors in plastic boxes to keep them safe. Most are catalogued on the computer, but I am still trying to catch up with that!

hi there

Have you tried this Company for plans - they are based in Canada - I myself have had several plans from them.   They are also very helpful and well worth a try.

Thanks, John.
I had not come across this supplier before so it's very useful to know about them.
Unfortunately I could not find the Kirisame, or any other Japanese destroyers, in their collection of boat plans.

What an excellent range of plans! Thanks for sharing the link. I might have a copy of the plans somewhere as I was ordering the magazine via my newsagents at the time.

Be aware that these are basically rip offs of the original Model Boats plans, some of which are still officially available from Sarik Hobbies.

But some of them are no longer listed by Sarik.

I bought a copy of the ps Bilsdale plan for my build of the model published recently in Model Boats magazine as it was no longer published by Sarik.

The plan arrived OK but I did find that it had suffered distortion in the copying process so some of the dimensions were innacurate. Fortunately I still had the original plan published in the magazine to enable me to make corrections. So buyer beware!

I'll try to dig the plan out this evening, I'm out all day 'working' as a volunteer at Pendon Museum.

Hi there Roy,

Try dropping vintage plan Company an email - and they may be able to help you that way.   I must admit the plans that I have had from these have been pretty good up to now.

Hi John,
I checked with Vintage plans and they confirmed they do not have the Kirisame plan.

I finally received your message a couple of days and did reply.
I was unable to get around to digging the magazine & plan out as a good friend of mine passed away on Monday. I'll do my best to find the plan today.

I have the magazine with the plan still stapled into it. It is a typical Glynn Guest design, elegantly simplified for the less experienced builder. I think it would be ideal for an eleven year old.

Just need to work out how to get the plan to you. I have had a suggestion that I send it to another MM member in the UK who will scan it, return the plan to me and the scan to you, hopefully that will work out.

Roy,

Do you need the magazine as well as the plan or just the plan? I have them in front of me right now and another member has offered to scan them, but I don't want to send the magazine unless you need it.

Cheers, Dave
