Hi Dave and Carl, I started off using a balsa stripper but unless you take it very carefully the blade tends to follow the grain, so I ended up cutting them on the bandsaw and then cleaning the sides up with a sanding block. If you want the Lime wood to take a stain you have to sand off the coating that they have lacquered them with, I find this easier to do before I cut it into planks.

Dave, can't quite remember but I think the blind with only two slots in is about 4ft. Have a trip to Ikea, they do great meatballs in the cafe

Thank you for the explanation Alan - I have never done plank on frame before so I think I may need to have a bit of practice before I let myself loose on the plug........

So the next job is the wheelhouse roof.

Cross members made with a slight curve and notched to fit the bridge sides,these were laid in place on the bridge and then the planking was glued to them, this way ensured a good fit. Planks were then sanded down and given a couple of coats of sealer.

The radar motor was fitted

The ceiling for the bridge roof, this is made from plasticard and will be fitted using 6 brass pins so that it can be removed. The lights are made from pill capsules with small 12v bulbs fitted behind, not very pretty wiring but whose going to see it but you lot.

Well rather than tackle the 1mm x 1mm beading around the windows of the bridge,I thought I would have a go at making something to hold the mast to the deck and the swivel thingy that allows the boom to, well, swivel, so it must be called a boom swivel thingy
They have all been made out of brass tube and strip, and soft soldered, just need cleaning up and painting.

The beading's for the windows are now done, they are made out of 1mm x 1mm Lime and mitred into the corners.
The first few I stuck to my fingers with the super glue,

then I used a pair of tweezers and a tooth pick to apply the glue, much better, no more stuck fingers.

The whole lot was sanded and a couple of coats of sealer

Here is some of the bits I have made for the wheel house, they are all made out of bits of plasticard glued together, shaped and painted, apart from the clock that is the first thing I have made on my new toy, the knobs are brass dress making pins, couldn't manage them on the lathe
There is also a pic of the door made for the wheel house, just needs handles making now.

The inside of the wheelhouse is now finished (I think) the inside is made out of plasticard with the gloss side on the inside of the wheelhouse, to save painting it, the rest is made of Teak. The windows are glued in place with canopy glue applied with a tooth pick. The floor is planked and varnished.

Radar and searchlight fitted to the wheelhouse. The radar is made from bits of plasticard and fitted with one of FLJ's motors. The searchlight is made of brass and is my first project on the lathe (second attempt) fitted with a 12v grain of rice lamp. Will have to do something about the cables coming out of the searchlight.

So here is pics of the fish hold that I have made for here, I have made the hold out of plasticard shiny side in, to save painting, the surround out of Teak and the covers out of Oak, all the wood has been sanded and treated with Teak oil. The handles are out of aluminum welding rod

I have eventually got round to making a start on the working winch.

I have cupboard that is full of old printers/scanners,cassette players and such, from these I found a small motor that would run on 12v with plenty of torque, a worm type cog that would fit on the shaft, a double cog that would take the drive from the worm to a large cog that was drilled out to fit on the main drum,

A base of Aluminium was made to mount it all on, with the motor underneath.

The main piece is plumbers pipe and all the discs are cut out of plasticard. A brass tube runs right through the plumbers pipe, brass tube was used to make two small bushes that are fitted in the end supports.

One of the photo's shows it put together without been glued to see how it looked, there are still some bits to make for it but the main part seems to be OK.

The winch will work with one channel through an ESC

This the frame that holds the pulleys and rollers for the winch.

There is still a bit to do on it including making two pulleys that will swivel.

The roller has been made and fitted to the top of the transom. The two end supports are made from the brass pins of a 13amp plug top, the rod is a 4mm brazing rod with a 3mm thread put on each end, the rollers I have made from mild steel in the hope that they will get a little rusty. The whole lot is bolted to the stern with 2.5mm nuts and bolts.

I have made the A frames that hold the pulleys for the trawler boards, they are made out of square section brass, soldered together, just a couple of stiffening fillets to go on to make it look like a proper job, then it can be painted and bolted in position.
