Tattoos anyone?
« on: August 18, 2008, 12:58:08 am »

Not been on the site recently but thought I'd say hello again and ask if there are many (any!) members interested in tattoos (body art not Edinburgh) to the extent of actually having any.
Cheers

Hi Jullian,
Not not me.... just the thought of a needle gives me the collywobbles!

I've seen quite a bit about tattoos on TV recently, how they make a statement about the person,
individualism, self empowerment,  etc.etc.     what do you think? How many do you have?

Martin.

I have not quite got the fully rigged sailing ship across my chest (well in my case it would have to be a row boat), but I do have a tiger cub at the top of one arm, and a celtic design down the other arm. Now Martin if you could give me the pantone ref colour number for the Mayhem logo--might look good across my back

I have three tattos, a flying eagle and a heart with a young lassie's name through it on my left arm, and a knife with a snake wrapped around it on my right arm.

I have two piercings in my right ear with titanium 3mm ball and hoop rings and an 10mm ball and hoop ring in my left ear, plus at one time I had a 5mm ball and hoop through a part of me that only my doctor and my girlfriend ever saw.... ::)

I always fancied having Puff the Magic Dragon done, but the thought of having that part of me tattooed always put me off. And now I'm too old to keep that part of me upright long enough to have the tattoo done..... :'(

Well It's good to see I'm not the only one!

You're right Martin tattoos are now seen much more including the television, and the reasons behind them are as diverse as the people with them.  They're nearly mainstream these days and almost have to be as getting any amount of decent work done can be an expensive business.  I've got a full sleeve in Japanese style which includes a carp, maple leaves, cherry blossom and winds bars.  There is a lot of symbolism in the Japanese style.  I'm going to have some of it touched up in a few months but had to cancel the five sessions I had booked to do my other arm because I'm in the middle of buying a house, as I said good work isn't cheap.

Piercings... now that's something else and I find it interesting to see others with them but don't think I'd have any myself.

Cheers, Julian

I think that one of the problems with tattoos is that as you get older your skin gets slacker and the thing just becomes a smeary smudge. Not attractive.

Colin, you are quite right saying that...I was always told to rub vaseline into mine once a week...they've been there now for over forty years and still look ok.

Martin...be brave, man. I did all of my piercings myself (including THAT one) and didn't faint once! A bottle of cheap scotch (drink half and rub the piercing with the other half) never had any problems with any of mine. Until the day when I went for a pee behind a handy hedge, caught the ball in my zipper and flicked it out. Try as I might I could not find the bl**dy thing, and everytime I moved the hoop kept catching on my undies...a touch painful. I took it out and by the time I got home I couldn't get it back in again.... >>:-(

Puff the Magic Dragon is an amazing sight when done properly, it really is something to see. Shame this is a family site, I'd post you a pic...just to really test your constitution!!!    ;D

I have to say that I find the whole scene beyond my comprehension but intriguing!

I wonder just how many tattoos about these days are, in fact, transfers. I cannot imagine some of the young girls I see with tattoos in interesting places go for the needle! (Thank goodness that these days I am just a harmless old man!).

There you go, Martin....a few transfers and your in with the in-crowd!

I would love a tat of a common carp, but don't like the idea of going through the pain of having one! :embarrassed: ;D

Go on Dazzler, when you get married?? you could have the wife's name added underneath as a surprise for your wedding night.  I believe NHS food is very nice  {-) {-)
Anyway, if Steamboat Phil has a whole Triumph motorbike on one arm and a Scottish football team on the other, it can't hurt that much  ::)
I think it has to be a form of exhibitionism - bit like creating a show winning model boat (except that you are the object of all the attention (good and bad).
Hm - I'll give my mate Sigmund a ring about it!  I can sneak out when the warden nurse unlocks the door  :D :D {-)

There is an old guy back home in Wales that has 'Ludo' tattooed down there.

He says when he was younger it was his party piece, as the girls could get it to read 'Llandudno'  ???

Put Puff the magic dragon into google and you will see the tattoo. Very impressive but I wonder if the chap passed out.

A joint-smoking Smurf???
Nice one!

The only tatt' I have is the result of a school yard 'dare' consisting of a needle and Indian ink. It was supposed to be a cross but ended up as just a blob after I seen all that blood leaking from my arm. Yuk!

Hmm... confusing. I thought you said, 'All i have is a smurf smoking a joint on one arm'.
Now I'm doubly intrigued. I don't suppose you could up a photo, could you?

PMK - It is well known that 'self abuse' leads to problems with the elbow joint! (Not that I ever practiced)
Obviously Smurfs practice this "hobby" to such an extent that the friction caused has resulted in this particular Smurf's elbow getting overheated to the point that it has caught fire  :o  hence the "smoking joint"

Although it could be interpreted as - the Smurf has a VERY large spliff which he can only hold up be the use of his whole arm!  Now, if he were to smoke the whole of that ....

Yes, I feel that a photo of the Smurf in question will clear up many things!
