The sad passing of an old friend.
« on: November 04, 2008, 09:34:12 pm »

My parents told me about Mr Common Sense early in life and told me I would do well to call on him when making decisions. It seemed he was always was and always would be around but as time went on he seemed to appear less and less. and today I read his obituary.

OBITUARY COMMON SENSE.

Today we mourn the passing of an very old friend `Common Sense` he as been with us for many years. No one knows exactly how long for his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.
He will be remembered for cultivating such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird got the worm, life isn't always fair and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults.not children are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.
Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended for using mouth wash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding and unruly student only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves failed to do in disciplining their children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental permission to administer an Aspirin, sun lotion or a plaster to children, but could not inform the parents if the student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as churches became businesses and criminals received better treatment than their victims. He took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live when a woman failed to realise that a steaming cup of tea was hot. She spilled a little in her lap and was promptly awarded a huge compensation settlement.

Common Sense was preceded by his parents, Truth & Trust; his wife Discretion; his daughter Responsibility and his son Reason. He is survived by thee stepbrothers; I Know my Rights. Someone Else is to Blame and I'm a Victim.

You may not laugh but you will THINK.

Colin, that reminds meof this old story...

This is a story about four people, named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody.

There was an important job to be done and Everybody was ask to do it. Everybody was sure Somebody would do it: Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.

Somebody got angry about that, because it  was Everybody`s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it but Nobody realized that Everybody would not do it.

It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did that what Anybody could have done…

Spoke to one of my newer customers this week, he used to be in Health and Safety - when asked why he made the change he explained that he specialised in H & S within  local education authority and local government offices. The final straw that 'sent him screaming from the office' for ever ?

One of the local headmistresses wanted to put on a puppet display for first year junior students, she wanted him to produce the relevant documents for the use of socks as glove puppets......lack of common sense here?
