Right then just to chuck the cat in the bird house:
This place is called Model Boat Mayhem.
I cant help feeling that is should be model RC boat mayhem. Is it just me or does evey boat here have radio gear in. Dont get me wronge, radio control "floats my boat" to.
It's just some times things seam to get totally and uterly hammered with got to get a radio, motor, working winches etc. in the build before anyone takes an interest in things.

Might I suggest to our mayhemer extrodinair, Martin, that we start a section for static models.
I might be even tempted to post there!

No problem Ian,

Mayhem isn't just for RC boats, it's just that most of the members tend to run working model boats. Please feel free to post details of static models under the appropriate section as we welcome all types here and I'm sure people will be interested.

At the moment I don't think there is a compelling need to start a special section for static models, most should fit within one of the existing headings but let us know if you have a problem deciding where to post.

Otherwise, bring it on!

Hi Ian, Personally, I think static models can be just as good to see as RC ones, there is a lot of models convert plastic kits into RC. Some of the old sailing ships take a lot of time to build, and they look great as well as the dioramas. So ime for it mayhem if possible. Sonic.

What I like about Mayhem is that it isn't awash with small scale static plastic models. I don't mind them, at all, but sites like the Ship Model Forum seem to be deluged with them, and the R/C community there is tiny. (Though, Ron and others, are very good!)

I see no reason why you can not start threads on static models. When I was at Warwick there was an exhibitor there who only made static models, they were brilliant incredible detail in them. Do not feel this forum is only for R/C boats, it says ModelBoat Mayhem no mention of only R/C.

So as Colin has already said bring them on.

Well Andy, I have been there for over 8 years, long before Mayhem started, in that time I have built and shown how to build 4 large models.

Myself and Bill Waldofe built along side each other, I was asked to set up the Scratch & R/C side, it has grown but only slowly, the americans like to build small, 1/350 1/700.
On the Californian side they like 1/96 scale r/c warships.

86% of the site are static ships,

The gallery is unbelievable, 8 years of photos, thousands of ships. Its not just a FORUM.

Static Models are very welcome.

There are a lot of techniques for detailing that will be of great interest to builders of working models.

Well that got that sorted.
I just thought that it might be easier for all if there was just one section for static models, just to save having to wade through all the sections.

Watch this space, I won a Herman Marwande in a contest, and I am hoping that there are some photo etch sets laying under the christmas tree, (together with some paint and glue).
I was thinking of r/c ing it but I have other ideas in that department.

Guess I'll have to find the camera too now!

We look at how the site is evolving and have a reshuffle about once or twice a year.
If there were enough posts on static models to justify them having their own board then this would happen.
We need to balance the needs of all groups and at the same time make the site as simple to navigate and manage as possible overall.
