Brian, in warships there is (with the exception of Fast attack crafts) just the scale 1:100. I have done all my warships (HMS Lord Nelson, HMS Mohawk, HMS Velox, P-38) in scale 1:100. The 70` CMB was the exception (scale 1:24)
The Black Prince ...- oh dear- this will be started when I have found the place where to keep her in my flat..., the Swift, probably next spring. First of all the refurbishments need to be done, then I will start with the Soviet Motor-Torpedoboat (scale 1:24).
After that, Swift or Black Prince will have a go....
The M-class you are talking about, which year is it? WW1?

Jorg, The M Class of 1914 - although Mansfield was one of only 2 ships of the Hawthorn M's - the other was Mentor. The difference between the bulk of the M's and the Hawthorn pair was the extra funnel on Mansfield and Mentor. Now consideing I'm not that keen on ships with four and more funnels wouldn't you just know that they had me wound up well before I was even born!  ;D
Not only that, but the second HMS Mansfield (served in World war II) was a lend-lease destroyer - and a four stacker as well!! This later Mansfield actually served in four navies during her lifetime (a record??) USN ex-USS Evans, RN, Norwegian KNM and RCN.

All the best with your builds... cheers, Brian

Brian- 4 Navys must not be the record.
The protected cruiser (in your description) Panzerkreuzer Goeben served under: Imperial navy, then under Osmanian Flagg, a short time under the Swastika, then under Turkish Flagg and saw service for a maneuvre under Nato-flagg. Served from 1911 until 1978 and was scrapped 1980/1981. I think this is the longest service at the moment of a warship...., the American Battleships still kept in reserve (since WW2) might come very close to that???
About the Mentor, I think she was mentioned in the Book from Cpt. Dorling....

Jorg, Thats got to be a new one on me, the Yavuz Sultan Selim (ex SMS Goeben) serving under the Swastika? When was that then - must have been before WWII as Turkey was neutral from 1939. A guess would be the during the Spanish Civil War??

I do remember Turkey offering her back to the German Government as a museum piece (early 1970's  ???) but sadly they refused.  :'( What an fantastic exhibition she would have been - the sole survivor of an incredible era!  ;)

Cheers, Brian

She was captured by the Kriegsmarine and had shown the Swastika just for a day- then she was returned to Turkey. I had seen once a photograpgh of it. But I don`t have any idea when it was.
Yep, unfortunately they had refused the ship to be brought back or it was to expensive... whatever.
I have also read an report about the Prinz Eugen, still lying upside down at the Bikinis.... and there was the idea of lifting her and refurbishing it as a swimming conference room for the UN.... No, it wasn`t the 1st of April...  :P

Roy, Not at all cheap (there's mention of this in a thread on here somewhere!) but the Maritime Museum at Geenwich will sell you a copy of the warship plans you want - but as I said, I would be prepared for a shock at the cost. I paid £25.00 (I think) for just 2 sheets for the M class destroyer and a hefty postage charge(?) (and that was a good 10 years ago) and they wanted £60 I think for Swift. You can pick and choose which sections of the warships plans to buy, depending on what plans are available, so in theory, you could keep it down to the basics or buy a full set if they have them on file... ! Nope! It was no fake....- althogh when I have seen some photographs of "Foreign warbirds in the Luftwaffe"- do you know that they had Spitfires and Hurricanes in Service? Some of them with the Swastika? And a squadron of B-17? Some of them under the swastika, some of them under Stars and Stripes.
There was years ago a book about captured ships in the Kriegsmarine- unfortunately sold out... they had a plenty number of ships running under their flag, most of French origin and some British vessels as well.

Nothing seems to be impossible. Hmmmm would be interesting to build a boat like that.....- everybody will claim you having noticed a fault  ;D

Wasn`t some E-Boats captured by the Royal Navy as well? I think that I have read about that......

About the plans from the NMM- the price for the planset of the HMS Black Prince was about 150 quid, 5 years ago....- and it was nothing else than changing "Printed Paper" for printed paper....  :D

Jorg, The classic 'captured' ship is the Narvik Destroyer under the White Ensign(!) as HMS Nonsuch - I fancy doing the Dean's kit as that (one of these days(!)  :o) and maybe adding a pair of bofors to her as well...!!  ;D

As for the cost of plans for Black Prince - NO surprise there then! At that sort of price it kinda spurs you on to make use of them.....!! I was thinking of framing the main HMS Mansfield plan, but that sheet has HMS Mentor stamped on it - bloody typical. Only consolation is the fact that where it was folded in the dockyard/ministry/wherever file, the outer segment photocopied very black, so one corner of it is awful...!!  :D
