Martin , thats what I thought when I saw it , however then had to rule you out of the equation due to a number of Factors.

1. It never rains where you walk   :D

2. There had been no reports of Hawaiian type shirts around the place.. 8)

3. I seem to remember Steve going at it some with a drill and a 2*3 piece of wood and hammer..Knocking out the bulkheads. %%

It was a good weekend, my son really enjoyed the large models used for towing..

Can i say also that the first bring and buy at the Museum proved extremely popular over the weekend, with boats coming from all over the country, prices ranged from £15 to £350. I had two enjoyable days, standing in the stables, getting hoarse, ( Stables, Hoarse, gettit ? Oh please yerselves ! )  I can't wait to do the next one.
P.S. Just a Secondary note. I've taken over as Secretary of the Ellesmere port model boat club. Any future correspondence regarding Club information should now be directed to me, Martin. Email me on my profile to get my address. Cheers.

Hi stav the warship has allways leaked even after a quick coat of glass due to having a concreate keel so mike Ellis made the decision to have some fun with it. we smashed the bulkheads out that we could then drilled the rest but due to the bow being full of expanding foam the bi***ch wouldn't sink

Oh.   I paid  £5 for a large bowl of excellent soup with 2 rolls and butter and a large cup of black coffee and thought that wasn't too bad.  I didn't notice any other prices though so possibly they weren't as reasonable.   I did think the staff looked a bit surprised/overwhelmed by the influx of people though.

Both myself and my wife had a cup of tea when we got there and a soup and sandwich for lunch.  We were both impressed with the quality of the food and the prices when compared with other shows were extreemly reasonable.   We had a conversation with a number of other club members, all of whom agreed that the prices were noticably less than we would have paid at other venues.

Value for money of the whole event was exceptional, especially when you consider that the museum was opened especially for the event and the three pounds entrance fee gave to acces to the entire site.  They even manned the engine shed and had one running on the Saturday, which I was very pleasantly surprised at.

I think if you compare the cost of this event with the cost of some of the bigger shows you might realise just what a good deal it really was and complaining about the cost of the home made soup and sandwiches is completely unjustified.

Yup.  As I remarked when I got back, where else could you get an excellent model show and a look round a fascinating museum as well for £3.   As for food, in my experience you could easily pay £5 for a paer cup of instant coffee and an unidentified meat burger from a grubby van at a lot of places, with nowhere to sit down either.   I didn't actually use the catering facilities at the Warwick show but where the prices any lower in the gallery caff there?

Cheers

My wife and I travelled up from the Forest of Dean for the show, first one of the year and was it ever welcome! (I get 'harbour fever' not going to boat shows over the winter.  :-)

We were well impressed and stayed overnight locally to go back again on the Sunday it was that good. The towing demos were awesome, the size of the three tows themselves boggled the mind, one can only wonder at the size of the truck to carry them about.  ok2 The club displays were excellent, and I spent ages gawping at the 'USS Gambier Bay' escort carrier, most impressive.

The traders stands were good too, I spent FAR too much, but that's what it's all about at the start if the year anyway. See my posting elsewhere about George Turner's stuff, one of which is now on my slips.

We had lunch and numerous coffee and cake sessions in the cafe on both days and didn't see much cause for complaint. Compared to motorway service area prices the food was costed at give-away levels, and it was of excellent quality too.

A couple of things puzzled me, there appeared to be no other sailing going on apart from the towing demos, although we did see a Fiesta yacht in the upstream pool early on the Saturday. Did we miss the other types or wasn't there any? And I could see no sign of a transmitter control anywhere, not that I brought a boat with me, but if I had where would I have checked in?

Looking forward to the next one, the venue knocks spots off the Leisure Centre show last year, glad it's back 'at home'.

Transmiiter control on the saturday was under the 2 large green gazebo's by the bridge to the traders hall , however these get seriously damaged in the wind saturday night  and on sunday was under the smaller White gazebo, same spot.

Hmm can't say as I spotted it.  There was certainly no damn great sign saying "Come and have a sail of your boat here".   I did spot a small sign advertising "have a go" for children though.   I think that having the top basin full of boats for as much of each day as possible would be the one thing I'd like to see change.   It would be a big draw for casual visitors to the museum.   The towing is interesting, particularly the very large tows, but for the average punter who we should want to interest in the hobby, I fancy a gang of Micro Magics or small RTR electrics racing would be more likely to encourage them to buy a boat and give it a go.   Also demo's by clubs etc. would be good.

Ministeve - if it happened and I missed it or if it was planned but not supported then I apologise.   If not I hope you'll see it as a constructive idea to add to what is already back as a very special show.

Cheers

To an extent I'm with Guy, when you came into the Museum much of the sailing was out of view if the trip canal boat was moored up, which was the case most of the day. Having a variety of boats on that upper pool would surely have grabbed the attention of Joe Public I'd have thought.

I did see the green and white gazebos (sad about the wind wrecking them BTW) but I didn't note that they were Tx Control sites.

One humerous episode during our time there was my wife's comments on the two swans lurking about on the upper pool much of the time. While having one of our numerous 'coffee and cake' breaks she looked up and said 'Whoever built those two must have put some big batteries in, they just don't stop do they?' She said it completely dead-pan, and while I realised she was really having a laugh some of the other modellers sitting nearby were totally gob-smacked!  :-) :}

Women.. you can't take them anywhere! :-)

I took my partner and kids years and years ago... I didn't know you had to Pay til years later.  :embarrassed:

Actually, you can't take me anywhere. Did I ever let on about the time I kissed the groom at the wedding reception line? Worst thing about it was he kissed me back! Then we both withdrew with a mutual look of horror and I quickly ran in.

I wonder if he still thinks of me on anniversaries?
