CARR'S PRODUCTS/ PORTHOLES GLAZE
« on: January 23, 2009, 11:32:39 am »

Got the Carr's Aciddip, Electrofix and Metal Black.

As there isn't much info on their bottles. Does anybody know how to use them correctly to give a good job done.

Will I have to remove the glazing ? Only five out of 60 have the glazing in them and I am not sure how to or if they can be removed.

Hi seaspray,

I'm not sure about the Carr's metal black, although i think it may be similar to the Krick stuff i use.

It is an acidic chemical and needs to be used with care in a plastic dish.....i would just press out the clear plastic glazing in the ports and drop them in soloution, stir the liquid to agitate the process and when they look black enough pick them out with tweezers and rinse them off well in warm clean water.

To re fix the glazing discs i would use a clear setting adhesive like 1 hour epoxy, applied sparingly to the edge of the disc with a tooth pick.

As to the other bits of info you need i would think some of the others may have used the products. hope this helps.

Cheers Ian for the info.appreciated  :-))  :-))  :-))

I'll look up the Krick site to see what is there info on the products, I do know Krick is a big model manufacturer whether they are the same manufacturer on not.

Seems not a lot of members do this type of brass work to black.  :((
