Hi Bosun

Did you mean Crosby or Cosby!  I've found this on the 'Net'

I notice it's rather a 'beefy' drive system, so you should be almost the most powerful boat on the lake.

quote

History Albert - Alfred - Crosby - Victoria:
Built in 1972, at the Richard Dunston Yard in Hessle, Hull. The Alfred, Yard No 5881; Crosby, 5882, Albert, 5883 and the Victoria, 5884. All purchased by the Alexander Towing Company in 1972, to work in the Liverpool area, with all tugs undertaking many sea towing contracts.  Powered by a Ruston 9 Cylinder Diesel, pumping out 2,190 horsepower through a massive Kort nozzle, giving an impressive bollard pull of 40 tons. Measuring 32.6m in length, 9m beam, draught of 4.9m and at 277 gross tonnage, to date they are all still in service around the world, with the Crosby now in Mahon harbour on the island of Menorca.

Hope the Snow is not too much for you.

Hi Bosun,

I've built Alfred, Crosby's sister ship. No photos of my build I'm afraid, but if you contact Brian Close via Tyne Models website, I'm sure he'll help - he helped me a lot!
On recommendation from Westbourne, I have used Robbe Power 1000 motor, 12v 7.5 amp hour SLA for main drive, direct drive to 90mm brass prop in 100mm Robbe Kort nozzle.
Electronize FR30HX ESC. This combination gives me well over an hour of constant running, and is so controllable that you can watch the prop turning slowly in the water at low revs.
One word of warning - she's a heavy boat with all the GRP, batteries etc, don't plan on walking too far from car to water if you're past the first flush of youth like me! Lovely boat though, makes up into a nice model, on stand or water.

Have fun, buildng and sailing your tug! :-))

Hi Bosun,
Here are a few photos of the Crosby that I built; unfortunately I did not take a lot during the build. The drive motor was a 12v bosh car fan blower, I purchased this from MMModels, and I don’t think they supply these types of motor now.
The kort nozzle shaft and prop were all supplied from Tyne Models with the kit.

Hy Guys
Thanks for the replies
Ken ,, yes you caught me out on that one, I did indeed mean the Crosby. I will call over to check out your Imara, you seem to be keeping things very quiet about her :-))
Hy Danny,
Thats interesting about the 90mm prop and 100mm kort, I was,nt thinking that big I was thinking about 75 for the prop and 80 for the kort, are you useing her for towing.
I will be useing a 12volt, 12 pole motor giving a max of about 3200 revs, the same ones as supplied by MMB  ( I supplied them to him). and I will be wheeling and dealing with Dave at Action,  thats it,,, if he reads this now he will be forwarned, so my work will be cut out. %)
Hy Brian
When I recieved the kit last week there was a DVD with your pics on very impressive. the hull and topsides are very good quality as are the Pewter bits and peices, unfortunately there was no mention of a Kort/prop or shaft. I will have to get in touch with them tomorrow and order the extras.
Cheers Guys

Hi Bosun,
I ordered the Kort, shaft and prop from Les when I ordered the semi-kit in the first place. My first ever scale boat was 'Alfred' in much smaller size, in the 70's. It was a PBM kit, bread and butter principle balsa and ply build. When I saw Tyne Models version in Northwich show three years ago, I just had to go for it! Mine is not in the same class as Brian's as far as build quality is concerned, but I love it, and it runs like a dream, quite capable of towing most things I reckon, but haven't tried the club's rescue dinghy as yet!

Hy Danny
Brian has done a cracking job on his, the main thing is as long as you are happy with what you have done and built, that is what its all about.
I usually start of with good intentions ,,, taking pics,,, making a blog to post , following the plans, but I always end up forgetting the build pics, then I have nothing to post a blog about, and the plans end up under the bench. At the end of the day it does,nt matter, I,m happy and it keeps me out of the wifes way in the shed.
