Hi all,having just registered on this forum,i thought i,d introduce myself,i,ve got a 59 year old body with a 12 year old trapped inside,and have been into rc models for many years,but up until now,they were all land based,but i decided i,d like to branch out into boats/ships,so i decided to jump in at the deep end so to speak,I like big battleships,and U-boots,rather than start off small and work my way up,i decided i wanted something that was ready for the water,therefore i was lucky enough to find some models that were for sale,and were already built and running,I got a really nice Fleetscale 1/128 Scharnhorst,and a Robbe U47,but whilst buying the ready to run models,the guy who sold me the Robbe,asked me i,d be interested in an unbuilt,for want of a better word,Monster,battleship,he,showed me this beautiful kit of a 1/96th scale Yamato,Its Huge and come,s with everything,apparently it had come from America,where it cost over $2300,
suffice to say i, bought itfor a fraction of that price,but God knows where i,m going to put it,and also how  am i going to be able to hide it from,"she who must be obeyed" plus,its a monster build,and i think,now maybe,i,ve not jumped in at the deep end,i,ve fell in,
I think i will have to enlist my pal Artur,he,knows a bit  about building
When i do eventually start the build,i will keep you all posted on the progress

Yes the deep end it is, but it will be hell of a learning curve, and if you get stuck, you can be sure there is someone on this site who can help.
Wouldn't mind seeing a pic of the box and bits though just to wet our appetite

Was it not a good scot (Jock Russell) who said  "if you're going to be a bear be a Grizzly" (on slipping a full-race ford 4.7 into a poor formula one Lotus)

So you are a grizzly in the deep end?  enjoy it

Hi all,thank you for the kind words,and encouragement,I will post pics, of the unbuilt Yamato,as soon as i have them,The kit is still in England,as i only had room in the car for the Robbe,i,ve ust been in touch with the seller and he is going to send me some pics,prior to me going back down to collect it,760 mile round trip,i,ve got some picsof the Scharnhorst,and the Robbe,and will post these,if i know how, here,goes,

Thing is, this:



...is a whole 20" shorter than the Yamato at that scale. 

Projects of this size are, let's face it, hard work. Fun, but slow. I suppose, wasyl, you at least you have the hull already to go ... so maybe one day in the not-to-distant we can meet up in some suitable Scottish water. ;-)

Regarding the Dreadnought, a patch of real life has stalled my build temporarily. (I think the build write-up last left it in the attic under a snowy roof!) But all will soon be set for full steam ahead once again. Watch this space!

Hi Andy,phew, some build,i,ve been trawling over you,re website,and am well impressed,
but as you say,i,don,t have to build the hull,in fact when i saw the Yamato for the first time yesterday,It reminded me of a giant version of the 1/200 plastic Yamato,the main deck is in one piece and all the superstructure is pre-formed as are all the turrets and secondary guns,the only difficult part that i saw,was the set up for the motors/props etc,and the electronics,
I,m really impressed by the way you,ll be doing your turrets i.e. the movement thing,so don,t be surprised if i happen to come a knocking,
