I think that one of the requisites of picturing a model ship "at sea" is to get the model moving at a scale speed. Not a lot you can do about the water, but a pic showing water spray as big as a football makes it obvious. We have all seen "Liberty Ships" careering around at a scale speed of 80 knots. And when the "driver" sees the resulting photo he blames the photographer!
