WOW what a beaut!

Did you build the hull? What plans did you use?

One problem though - cant see the engine, what is it? :-))

Steam engines  love oil----you can never have too much.

But then you have to keep that beautiful boat clean--still a good rag (PS no cutting bits out the douvet cover, you get into deep trouble  <*<) does the trick

Love the work  :-)) :-))

thanks for the coments ,dont know wats next seams to take over youre life sometimes this model boatingi think it will be a open launch ive  been inspired by some of bernhards models ,putt a pick of the engine its a 3/8by 3/8 occilator runs well on 10 /30 psi reverse works well if you have a few revs on  but not 100% if you are just ticking over dont know if thats normal with this type of engine , i bought the hull and scratch built the rest by rack of eye and looking at various pictures mcsteam boiler ,engine from ebay

Pipercub

Did you just fit the wooden lagging around the bare boiler or is there insualing  material in between?

Andy,
the Cheddar Models method was to spray the whole boiler with black heat proof paint and then glue the wood lagging on using cyno or epoxy. The brass bands were then fitted to help retain the wood.

Hope that helps.

Cheers, was wondering how to hold all the wood on and tighten the belts, alltough I thought of glueing the wood to light woven fibre glass cloth and wrapping it around the boiler then brass band to hold it on. May still do that to stop the boiler getting covered in cyano or epoxy, use cardboard tube for a former, then transfer to the boiler.

You could try double sided tape as per the MH&B instructions for my Topaz, worked well on my boiler.

That sounds like a good solution. I never liked the idea of epoxy and hot boilers.

Very nice work!

I'd like to know more about the engine. The throttle/reversing valve position and steam pipe connection is unusual and not really clear to me. Do you have a betetr picture?

I recently fitted insulation and wood to a boiler for the first time and spent ages wondering how to do it. In the end, I realised the easiest way for me was to cut out the lagiing, hold it on the boiler with elastic bands, then cut and fit the wood under the elastic until all was ok.

I then fitted the brass bands and tightened them up to hold wood and insulation in place - no glue, no paint, seems to have worked so far. :-))

Thanks for all your tips, I have glued the wood on with superglue, and when it is varnished I will add the bands, apparently when the boiler is steamed, because of the heat and expansion, the superglue will come off the boiler, leaving the planking held on with the bands. I thank Mike Abbot at Maccsteam for this tip.

Another question, who makes  an oily water separator, I see Mr hemmens has one on his site for £££££, don't even mind a kit. No body else seems to list them.

Blimey, you don't hang about do you?

There is a guy who lists gas tanks and condensers on ebay. Also they are listed in Cotswold Heritage's price list. I can't find one big enough for my V4 tug, so I'll make one, or use a car catch tank that all the hot hatch guys have fitted these days (I know this as I have one on my Buell  :embarrassed:).
