first boat
« on: October 19, 2009, 01:11:04 pm »

hi my granddad has given me a rc boat. it is my first ever proper rc  boat it is about 2 foot fro tip to tip and it has a diesel engine in it. but one problem is it is in an absolute state. it is covered in grime with paint flaking off a cobwebs everywhere. also i dont have a clue about diesel engine, i have a nitro rc car and know a liitle about, but i dont know about fuel, the twiddley bit on top and how i controll it as it has a really strange carb.
any way i have some pics of it

For painting you need Halford's spray cans, Start with their grey primer then a couple of coats of any colour you fancy. Sand it down with 200 grit sandpaper first, being careful not to press too hard and weaken the hull. You need to be able to see as much wood as possible before spraying.

I would say that engine will need a damn good cleaning both inside and out before it'll run properly. You'll also be needing a muffler somewhere in the line of silicon tubing down the side of the boat for it because it will be LOUD! The carb on the engine sets the speed by altering the needle inside it, to richen/ lean the fuel supply. I stand to be corrected but I cant see a throttle there.

Good luck with it :-))

There was no RC throttle fitted to those engines, so you had to tune it in and let it go. The  screw on the top is to alter the compression, so starting the engine can be a bit of a trial. My recommendation would be to replace the engine with a glow motor (as you would have in your RC car) much easier to start, and you will get the RC throttle fitted as well.  :-))

that is what i was originally going to do but then i got some more history on it so i am going to restore it as best as possible using most of the original parts
