Hi Ken

The profile is solid but not D shaped, it as a more angled lower half than the top as per on the Tyne....

Ah. Thank you for that. Something I knew nothing about.  More research needed  ;)

Today I finished off the Bow curves and added the 'sticky-out'  bit to be shaped to profile when dry.

I've also re-made the fore deck as something went wrong with the measurements. (wood swelled perhaps  :embarrassed:  )

Then it was on to the sides which support the sloping gangway. I've made a top surface to the hull planking, When dry I shall be able to sand a nice sweeping curve as per the drawings, then the deck will have something to glue to.

While I was sitting down having my tea break I could see light coming through the hull, so I've glued extra little pieces inside to strengthen and fill the gaps.

40 days have passed and we have the hull completed.  We broke bread and sung and danced the night away.    :}

Well here she is with the decks fitted. The total weight at the moment is 7 Kg, so it's quite easy to shift around.  I've added a little picture to show how pleased I am.  (that I've still got all my fingers)

On to the complicated bits next.   :o

Thanks everyone. I am beginning to get somewhere at last.  Today it's strengthening up the hull to hold the rudders and prop tubes.

What are those confounded BLUE symbols on the second class ply Ken?

They do look pretty, don't they.

Today's competition.   What do the symbols mean ?

Is it Chinese for   "do not use for skiing"

Feng Shui.  I like that, it's good enough for me    :}

The Skiper should be able to go surfing with Mark's top motors at 24 volts.  ;)

Started fitting them today.

I have now spent considerable time locating and fixing down the motors.  As it's scratch built, I have to think of everything. Special brackets were made to line them up true.

They seem pretty secure so I've now epoxied the shafts in place and made the motor mount removable should the need arise. I have also epoxied in the base plates for the rudders and this morning I checked their firmness. Now to make the rudders.

The rudder tubes are now secured in and setting so it's on to the cabins.

Here are the side pieces cut to the drawings and just laid in place. I am now working on the first floor roof and have the pieces cut ready.

Hiya Dicky,

Yes, I am getting exited about her now. (and the wife  ok2).  The weight seems to be manageable at the moment, but then, it's only half a boat.

I haven't done anything to the trawler as I've been somewhat occupied.   %)    I did notice a fine layer of dust on my models however, so must do something about them, or the spiders will start nesting in them.   :o    I'm awaiting my Daughter's 'old' cupboard for use of it's wood content, as I believe the older trees were the best timber for us guys!.

I've been busy making the front bay windows. I only need five panels, but so far I've made fourteen !

These were not shown in any detail on my plans so a lot of interpolation was needed. Things like angles came into play and it was a challenge to say the least. I think I'm there at the moment, but only time will tell.   :embarrassed:

The pictures will give you an idea of the angles involved. I've just nipped out to check nothing has slipped whilst glueing and it seem alright at the moment. Tomorrow we join them to the roof and make further angles out to the Bow.

Looking good Ken, I was wondering if you were going to fibre glass or epoxy with matting the inside of the hull.

Had a chat with Bluebird for advice on this subject.

The plan is to Resin the inside of the hull and to Resin with tissue on the outside. We will have to wait a few weeks for the weather to warm up as it will require outside work. Fumes and all that.

I expect I can find something else to do in the meantime.  :}

Have finally fitted the angled slopes to the bridge. Each piece cut and chamfered to fit.

Now gone up a deck and starting the top bridge. More angles to play with here.

I've added further planking to the sloping cabin roofs. Also started was the control table inside the upper steering position.

Then while this is drying, I've moved to the stern section to finish off the rear of the cabin.

As the model was tied up with clamped glued pieces, I made the two rudders from brass sheet and bars. I've welded the pieces together with a lovely little blow lamp from Aldi. My thanks to Bosun for his tip on using these as they are for cooks to brown things in their kitchens. It's a cracking little welder and did the job in only half an hour. All for just under £14 plus materials. Cheers mate, and I didn't even need goggles or special gloves.   :-))

Hi Footski,

Nice to hear from you, and your kind comment. Yes, I had considered plastic for the upper works, but as I had the band saw I thought I'd give it a try. May have to sand it a bit and maybe a bit of wood filler, but we are getting there.

I'm quite exited about this one. Can't explain it, but I'm constantly wanting to get back out there.  It's day 50 today and although I haven't spent every day working on her, at least I've spent every day thinking about what to do next. Mind you, many things have been done twice as I couldn't get it right first time.

That's the thing about my blogs. they are warts and all.   %)

Cheers
