Robbe Dusseldorf
« on: December 15, 2006, 12:33:28 pm »

We are restoring a Robbe Dusseldorf, are there supposed to be any A frames on the prop shafts? they seem to stick out the back and I am wondering about any oscillation at speed. Also the pump for the monitors is rated at 12v but the motors seem to be rated at 6v-9.6v, anyone run them at 12v?

Thanks
Daryl

I am just building a Dusseldorf.
On the plans there are no a-frames.
With regard to the motors, if it is fitted with the Navy compact with gearboxes they are run on 6 volt, 12 volt will burn them out.
You are supposed to fit 2 x 6volt batteries and wire them in series to give 12 volts and take a middle tapping to give you both 6 & 12 volt, but most people fit two batteries, one 6 and one 12 volt.
I have put straight drive 12 volt motors in mine as the geared ones are too noisy.
You can run on just 6 volts, Robbe do a 6 volt version of their water pump - the number is 1568.
I am attempting to build mine to scale, the Robbe version as shown on the plans is way out

Forgot to mention.
Go to this site - http://flb2.muelhoefer.info/
It is in German but it shows a lot of detail in the photos, but be careful, if it says "Lang" in the sub headings they are building the much modified and stretched version of the Dusseldorf. You can surf on here for hours, and still not see everything.

If you want to get blown away by detail, try here - http://www.flb2.de/
This is the parent site of the one above, and gives a lot more 'real' detail, but again all in German, but as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.
I am building the early version, I have already made and placed the correct central position crane, bow thruster, anti cavitation plate, becker rudders, correct anchor ports, also repositoned the rear fire monitor into correct position, square warning flag, modified superstructure, chequerplate deck,  and the list goes on.
The only problem is that I am running out of channels on my F14 even though I have got a multi prop unit installed.

Thanks for the link the site is very impressive, Sam and I look forward to when we get ours on the water. Sam has decided to keep ours in the configuration the guy built it and to retain as many of the features he put on it as possible and to add more keeping in the spirit of his build as a lasting reminder and tribute to a great moddeller. We hope is widow will like the restoration.

Hi there, I dont know if this is a bit late in the topic - but, Ive just been going through some of my 'old' Model Boat magazines.   September 1981 has a kit review of the Dusseldorf - two pages long - couple of photographs.   If any good, pm me with your email address and I will scan them in and email them to you if any good to you.

I've had one of these partially completed for about twenty years! Managed to find all the pieces and see if I can get going again with it. I made a horrible mistake when painting the plastic superstructure - I brushed a liquid mask on the windows, theory I think was to paint over and then remove this. Problem I now have is I can't get the stuff off!! Not sure what will release it or if I have to just cut the windows out and replace them. Might be easier to just purchase a replacement part. Any thoughts?

Hi Mike,
I was given mine to restore, the builder cut the windows out and inserted  dark blue acrylic in its place, which looks quite nice. You can see inside but only just.

Regards

Daryl - Hi there -

Found more information on the Dusseldorf if you are interested.   This is the booklet that goes with the model /building of her.   There are no pictures, plenty reading though.   If its of any help, send me your home address in a PM and I will post it tomorrow for you.    I'm busy cleaning my working room /leper hole/solitary confinement room  :D and I'm busy going through old magazines & what not.   I'm not promising, but I'm sure I have a set of plans somewhere here.

The kit I have came with two of those manuals, one has the photos in it.
Could possibly copy and mail if you don't find the other.
