Oh and their defination of it is,
JETSPRINT boat racing consists of a driver
and navigator racing a small V8 powered jet
boat through a dug track at speeds up to
80MPH. The track is usually 3 feet deep with
channels about 12 to 15 feet wide. The driver
and the navigator must negotiate a
pre-defined course correctly and consistantly
have the fastest time.

yes its a copy of the OZZ/ NZ races that have been going on for donkeys years , if you can get motors TV on sky they have shown the series for the last few years, I chap tried to set it up in the UK a few years ago at Martin Meir near Southport UK.

its good fun you can get a nice model of one that goes well.

It is more like Rally driving, but it is fun.
Just South of Taupo in NZ there is a permanent track set up where the public can go for rides in slightly slower versions of the power machines.
I think it is around $40-$50 for two laps, but everyone I saw coming out of that place had a smile a mile wide.

I used to live near the Waikato river and was a rower at Mercer, one of our rowers used to turn up to practise in her jet boat, amazing machine and she wasn't anything to be sneezed at either. If you were good to her and helped her out with the rowing, you were almost guaranteed a turn at the wheel of her jetboat, very fast, scary fun.

I enjoy the jetsprint races they show on Motors TV, very hard to see how the drivers keep their eyes on the circuit and on the navigators hand signals at the same time. When they get it wrong it can roll the boats onto the small islands.

I was actually thinking on a smaller scale Martin, them guys use a big area of water . But these guys race around what could be called a scalelectrix track of water and the speeds they reach on such a short distance must give you a real buzz  :} .

Try this one out. Note the difference in times as the boats go up in classes.

Done and dusted, not just one but two as well http://www.xtremercboats.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=19169&p=203629&hilit=chris+tonn#p203629 shows some examples. There are quite a few videos out there as well - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLhapuIZ1w4

Pure jet thrust has also been tried but not that impressive.
