new boy, new project

Hi guys and gals, I dont know if I have posted this in the right section.
I am trying to build a bait boat for my dad and his carp fishing. He cant cast very well as his hands aren't what they used to be after 40 years in the steel trade, even though I know using one is cheating slightly.
I am trying to keep the costs down as he got made redundant last year and is struggling to find a job as nobody wants to employ a 63 year old. I have managed to get 2 motors which seem to be low speed rpm but high tourqe.
http://en.unitemotor.com/ProductView_34.html
and have a 3 channel radio set (transmitter, reciever and servo) and 2 12v large batteries, I should be ok fibreglassing a body for the boat as I do a fair bit of fibreglassing at my work as a car body repairer and spray painter.
The problem I am having is the electronics side of it and how to get the boat to steer, I thought about using a mixer but the one I have found is quite expensive but ticks all the boxes. Its the action electrics p94 but is 80 quid ish. Would there be a cheaper alternative? or would i be better off using 2 rudders behind the motors?
The boat doesnt have to be fast at all but may have to carry quite a bit of bait 1.5kg ish of bait depending on the situation.

The finished article I am hoping will be something like this

thanks for any help in advance

As a fellow fisherman myself i know what it like to get your bait placed right fortunately I'm not to old so a catapult works for me ...

I know the bait boats your thinking off but there about £300 for a good one (however u can get a cheap one that will do the job for under £100)
http://www.ukcamo.com/items/item.aspx?itemid=673508
The princeable to these bait boats are to drive to the location and drop a load in one spot, these boats however are catamaran's they utilise the centre area between the hulls to hold and drop there loads using a servo controlled hatch as the drop zone ( this is easily achieve with a folding hinged base on a servo arm to lower and raise the bait holding section.

since your low on cash u can do a few things... either check out ebay for a old catamaran or similar 2 hulls of a model boat kids toys from a charity shop few mods here and there could get you started if your scratch building.. pm me and i will send you a catamaran plan ( its full size so u will have scale down but it will defiantly give u some better ideas i hope )

Best of luck let us know how it turns out eh?

P.s link to a bait boat... might help with a image
