Sounds like the model boat club being all cliquey (surprise surprise) and taking their bat and ball home because someone used 'their' pond. One of the reasons I've avoided joining clubs over the years. Theres always someone who LIVES for the rule book!

Coppers took it a bit serious though?

That said I am thinking about joining a club when I move, watch out rule book lovers, I'm a comin!!

Reading between the lines there seems to be a bit of history here, I doubt if we are getting the whole story.

Wonder where the council gets the money to fund the lakes upkeep?? As ratepayers I wonder how much is syphoned off for the local park lakes and patches of water they "Look after" for us to enjoy??

Are you suggesting that all the lakes should be 'syphoned off'? Leave a lot of muddy holes wouldn't it - not to mention homeless swans and ducks and things.....?

Sorry Colin, should have said how much they leech from us.   O0

  Regards  Ian.

Very interesting scenario. We vote in local councillers, who take money from us to enable us to live to some sort of standard and look after the community. Some of this money goes to the Police to help protect us from Hoodies and  -------------------- Toy boat drivers.

Probably a lot less than in the past pro rata judging by all the council owned waters that have been closed over the years. There was a time when almost every public park would have its own model boating lake but that was a long, long time ago.

It's sad that the peelers got involved in this. What's the problem if the bloke was running an electric boat? A club I was a member of used to get hot under the collar if non-members used "their water" (not that it bothered me). Yet anybody could use the pond during the permitted times and days.
We were at another park lake once on a day and time when boats were permitted, run by anyone ... not just club members. A bloke who was there with two young lads catching tiddlers in little fishing nets went whinging to the park attendants. They turned up in due course and gave us a lecture about noise, pollution, etc as expected. We explained that, according to the park rules, anyone could run boats (even I.C. which we were running) on that day and at that time of day. Again the parkie repeated his lecture. Listening to him and "reading between the lines" I got the impression that he was thinking "Yeah, I know what you're saying and we know the rules, but this bloke is a whinging **** and we all could do with a quiet life so ....."
So we packed up and left, leaving the whinging tiddler-catcher smirking all over his face. Well done to him, ******!
So, there you have it, even when you abide by the rules and regulations, if somebody complains you can still be in the wrong.

In reality there was only two Police Officers, the other two were the PCSO types that walk the streets with no power to do anything. Not their fault, just the government selling us short on policing.

This guy seems to just have been enjoying his hobby, sounds like the clubbies need to lighten up. As for the guy having a history sinking people's boats, why not just have a word with him? I think bothering the police with such trivia is criminal in itself. Yep sounds like the old women getting bothered because someone used 'their' water!

I get the feeling this may all lead back to something like this...
.
.
.
:} :} :}  :police: :police: :police:

If you are using a radio device which may be used to detonate a remote-controlled bomb you will need anti-terrorism clearance, and the presence of an armed police team at all times.

If you are likely to be approached by or talk to a child under the age of 18 while sailing the boat you will need to undergo checking and criminal records clearance.

If your boat has any paint, chemicals or other noxious substance on board (including lubricating oil) you will need to provide certificates of acceptability (REACH certification) under the new EU chemicals regulations.

If you are intending to approach a body of water more than 5 cm (2 inches) deep, you will need to complete a Safety Risk analaysis and obtain appropriate certified safety equipment.

If there is any lifeform in the body of water which might be disturbed by your presence or activity, you will need to complete a DEFRA study, determining the level of disturbance to wildlife and the actions you will take to mitigate this.

If your boat is propelled by any mechanical means you will need to have completed the necessary Carbon Footprint documentation, and hold enough Carbon Permits to cover your carbon output.

You will need to satisfy your local recreation council that your hobby is:

- accepted and approved within the local framework governing pastimes and other practices
- suitably planned to involve minimum disruption to traffic and other services in the area
- provided with a back-up and emergency document describing actions to be taken in the event of any hazard arising.

Once these minor necessities have been completed, and the non-refundable charges for the provision of each of these services paid, you can apply to your local council for an order which, if granted, will let you join the queue of people with approved activities  who are waiting for their designated allocation of enjoyment.

Unless, of course, any issue arises...

There are in fact over 16,000 more police officers, since the Tories were were booted out. as well as nearly 16,000 PCSOs

The lake was also used by a club. We sailed there at their regattas and knew some of the members. We didn't want to foul things up for them.
Also the tiddler catcher was a well-spoken type wearing a check sports jacket. i.e. Trouble. A "I know my rights" type who, because of his demeanour, would most probably be listened to more than we would. The incident happened around thirty years ago. If something similar happened to me now I would switch directly into grumpy B mode and dish out verbals all round!

Had the "Screaming jet boats" arguments over fifty years ago with residents living a few hundred yards from a local park lake. That was at a time when we were using Diesels, not glows, to power "conventional" designs - Cabin cruisers and service launches - the  original era of Crash tenders and Sea Queens.

With the new design electrics, in and outrunners, wonder how long it will be before you have to comply with a deciblometer cos some of the latest used in toy aircraft (Which are forced to percolate down to boats) seem just as shrill as a small glow??

Wonder if the "Issue" with the perp. in this thread is that he originally refused to join "The Gang" ??

Came across an interesting scenario a few years ago when trying to secure the future of an adjacent (to me) piece of water, the Council didn't know who owned the land, but THEY owned the water??????

On the subject of noise levels. The arguments about I.C. are usually noise and pollution. Watching some of the clips of very fast electrics on YouTube, they really howl. Has anybody had any problems regarding complaints about noise levels from fast electrics?

We are not allowed to sail i/c or fast electric on our lake because of the noise.

Yeah, and higher violent crime figures! Work that one out. He's lucky the local boat club didn't just shoot him in cold blood and then recieve a community service order!
