Can I use 40mhz crystals in 35mhz transmitter
« on: August 16, 2010, 01:09:13 pm »

Hi,

I saw some posts a few months back about putting 40mhz crystals in a 35mhz transmitter and using with a 40mhz receiver and it works fine.

Is this true / ok to do since I have looked but can't find the posts.

Thanks.

I'm not to sure on using 35 to 40 MHz, risky in my oppinion 35MHz is for air craft use.. have you looked at the 2.4ghz systems that dint require crystals at all? Totally eliminating the issue of cross connections and only 6 -12 (if you use 27 splits)boats on the lake at one time . You can get cheap ones around the 30-40 quid mark if your budgets low the one i have is from called the PLANET 5 (5 channels) and use a Plannet 6 (6 channel receiver one spare port for the external battery pack) i use 1 transmitter for every boat and just buy replacement receiver packs for every other boat.

Transmitter and reciver packs

replacment recivers ( for other boats)

I saw the post , No it will not work, it works at about 6 foot range only if you are lucky . don't do it.

I believe that 35mhz is not for surface craft only aircraft, if that is the case then you can not use it even if it would work.

The tuning section of the transmitter not only has different crystals GUH but also a different tuning circuit, caps coil turns etc..

If you want to do the really Yorkshire frugality trick, go for a Giant Cod 2.4 Giggly conversion on your existing gear and using a changeover switch, retain the 35 moggies for Glider guiding and switch over for swimming.  O0

...... BUT if thats a submarine in the pic, then he cant use 2.4Ghz, unless its only run on the surface!

Ok thats cleared that up then and its a no go.

It wasn't for the sub but another surface model that I had a spare 40mhz RX and 35mzh TX.

Many thanks for the replies.

The original question you asked GUH must have been with a Yorkshire accent. :-))

the origanal post was in the swaps section ! the querry being that id bought a hitec 35 mhz rx by mistake , ( which i still have if anybody wants one ?) i already have two hitec 40 mhz txs , the story goes that if you put the 40 mhz rx  xtal in the 35 mhz rx it works ! ? ? ?  ive not been able to carry out a full range check so cant confirm how true it is . but as the price of 2.4 ghz kit is so reasonable i shall fit all my models with this instead . anybody want a 35 mhz  fm , single conversion  5 ch rx ?
