49" Precedent Perkasa
« on: September 23, 2010, 04:51:25 pm »

Hi, can I have a bit of advice I have been building a 3 propped model Perkasa and have been trying to get the best motor and battery package. I don’t want it to fly just over scale speed would be nice. I have been told various different ways but what would be best.
Way 1) 3x Graupner Speed 600 bb Turbo Pt No 3302 with 8.4V NimH battery packs.
Way 2) 3x Graupner 700 BB Turbo 12v Pt No 6317 with 12V NimH battery packs
Way 3) 3x MFA 850 motors with 12V Nimh battery packs
Way 4) Ditch the 2 outside shafts keep them just for show and install a 900 size motor from Action Electronics with 12V Nimh battery pack on the centre shaft

I have been recommended so many different ways I’m getting to a point of stuff it I will do it my way, but I’m getting advice from experts who all say summit different.

Any ideas, does anyone else have a 3 propped Perkasa what’s your setup and how well does it work??

Thank you for any help Tom

Tom I can't help you with answers 1,2, and 3.  The more knowledgeable lads will do that,
but don't go for 4, I by coincidence was reading a defence report on anchoring earlier today
and their conclusion was that a locked propellor has the same drag factor as the ships hull - you are
proposing two props not under power- I know they will be freespinning but your central prop will still
have to drag them along slowing the boat appreciably.

Hi Tomp

many experts fit the definition:      ex - has been  spert - a drip under pressure.

It's your boat, go the way you want!  Then you can't blame any one esle  :D

models seem to perform with simalar charicteristics to there full size counterparts , personally i try to replicate as close as possible , but within reason ( cost / space etc ) ive just converted an old veron kit to twin shafts as was correct of this patrol boat and have fitted two park 450 brushless motors , two fusion esc s and running from a single 12 volt 7 ah gelly battery . the brushless take up far less space , are lighter than brushed equivelents and are more effecient !
