Georges web site is being worked on at the moment.

You can contact him on 01702291716.

I have just spoken to him.

Could a moderator change his phone number in the trade directory as he is now on the number above.

If you speak to him in person, he is not 100% interested in his website, he wont pay anyone to update it, thats why the boats section is always offline.

There is no boat section because George does not do boats anymore.

"In the past I've not had any response from emails etc."

It does beggar the question Colin, If they don't bother to answer emails and there are plenty out there in the modelling hobby that don't, from my own experience, why bother to show an email addresses in the first place. All this does is annoy the customer and wind people up when they don't get a reply to an enquiry.

Its not only Model Boats suppliers though - there are many large organisations who never respond to emails sent the their "Enquiry" addresses. :((

Hi Paul, please don't tar us all with the same brush.....  :(( :((

I would like to take this opportunity to point out that we at MMB use email as a primary form of communication and we strive to answer ALL emails sent to us within 24 hours (unless we are away at a show in which case it will be answered when we return) If I am on the computer at 11pm and get an email 9 times out of 10 I will answer it straight away......

Barrie

You are quite correct in what you say, but I kept my comments to the model trade, large and small, as that is the area of business that we all on this forum support. I think that if the subject is opened up then we'll have another range war on our hands and perhaps I,m drifting off topic anyway. I can accept that emails can be a pain in the backside as they are instant to send and almost free of charge. I am sure many queries could be sorted by a careful look at the firms web site or a quick google. however if an email address is given then an effort should be made on the part of the recipient to answer it within 48hrs.

Just as an example though of how one company that advertises in the model railway press handles the communications side of the business, he doesn't show a telephone number, says he has a disability and emails looked at twice a week. It's up front on the advert for all to see so you know were you stand from the outset. I've had no problems with dealing them using just letters and cheques.

This subject was discussed at some length a year or so ago. Not got time to find the topic though.

 Hi Mark

I don't think that anything I have said could be taken as tarring you all ( suppliers ) with the same brush. I do however stand by my comments.

For the wise and clued up retailer/supplier, email is a very important tool in the constant battle to win and hold customers, generally it's not to difficult to get the first order if they are in the buying mood but holding on to them now that's a different matter. You need the product lines on the shelf, new products, knowledgeable staff and much more, but in my opinion the most important tool in your shelf is communication, it costs next to nothing but without good quick and informed communication your sunk, dead in the water and feed for your competitor.

From my own perspective all emails were dealt with by the Works Manager and passed up or down the line if specialised replies were required, for my own part I hated emails. I really do think that some firms leave the emails to the tea boy when you look at the spelling and general content in reply to your enquiry.

Why do I hate emails you ask if I feel that they are so important, well although I was a hands on type of Boss and a practical type I really did enjoy selling the company products face to face with the potential customer although I had no training in selling and I thought that emails just got in the way. You need to see the whites of their eyes! But then as the Boss I could indulge myself knowing that the communications front was in good hands. I do however know that one or two of the office girls would call me Arkwright behind my back, from Open All Hours I believe.

Where I have used the words 'you or yours' they are intended to be general and not specific.

Paul.

Hi Colin

A topic very often discussed and so often neglected, If you look at probably most of the spats on Forums in general, not just this one, most of them are down to poor communication of one sort or another. The pity is though that we have such a rich language to dip into.

Paul.

So Back on topic

The website is up, but there is no online ordering....

I want to buy some of his figures as they are perfect for what I need so should I send an order in the post or get some kindly member to buy them for me at the next show he attends and post them on to me?
