Essential Items.
« on: April 14, 2011, 05:21:20 pm »

What bits and bobs would you never leave home without when going sailing?

The boat would be a good start, but apart from the obvious stuff like spare batteries what do you take to ensure your day is not ruined by gremlins?

I'll start.

Thread Lock.....Handy for the Starboard prop shaft linkages.
Spare universal joint....Powerful motors can rip the plastic ones apart if a prop hits something.
Allen key for the couplings....You may need to tighten or slacken something.
Pair of Pliers and spanner that fits the couplings.
Sheet of sponge.... You can sit your bum on it, you can sit your boat on it or you can use some to mop up any water from inside your boat.
I have even taken some quick setting resin but thankfully never had to use it.

So down to you!

Ali.

An essential item I forgot once was the acrylic watertight hatch for my Deep Dive VI, kind of embarrassing :-)

Usually, a syringe with a length of hose on it, for the removing of the old wet stuff. A rescue line with a weight on it ( haven't needed that for a couple of years though ). A box of spare crystals ( little used these days of 2.4G radios, more used by fellow members actually! ) Spare battery. Camera to exercise my latest ego trip......Spare  M8 bolts for the sailing ship keel weight.

I'm also working on some dock sections which can be attached to the side of my carry case when in transit.

Spade and plug connectors c/w crimping tool.....and odd bits of wire. Then there's the odd bits of lead ballast as the boats never seem to behave as they did last time out. BY.

I tend not to take too much in the way of maintenance equipment but, as Colin suggested I take at least one, sometimes two, spare boats. If by chance one should fail I just use another. Fortunately, failures are extremely rare so I usually end up giving all the boats a run.

Spare batteries all round.
Spare props for when 1 comes off.  <:(
Extra grease and oil for prop shafts.
Tools and superglue for all the other members who forgot to pack theirs.    <*<
It all fits in a small fishing box.
