I used the same method as Russ but without the heat gun for no other reason than i never thought to use one. Mine was done around this time of year, outside at midday with the sun shining. My Hull took about 5 cans of gloss  and like Russ said just keep misting it on, you can see the gloss building up as you go and after a couple of cans you seem to get a feel for the way the paint is drying and when to stop before you get a run.

If you do get a run I have found in the past that they always look worse than they really are, I always like to spray in the sun and on the odd occasion when I have had one I leave the paint to just dry a little, very gently rub it down with 1200 wet and dry , well wetted, clean up with clean water dust the surface with a tissue and then tack cloth and then re spray.

When the paint has had a chance to harden, in the case if my lifeboat about 4 weeks in a warm garage, I used a product called 'clay" a white rubbery plastic material that I use on my classic car before shows used with detailing polish to get a polished glass type of finish.

Hope this helps

Paul.

Thanks Russ and Paul, what lacquer is it that you use?

Tony

I did not use a lacquer, for just one reason, I was so proud of the finish that I achieved with the gloss paint alone i was not going to risk another coat of anything. My hulls been knocked a around a bit and the paint has not suffered. It seems hard enough to only suffer scuffs and these polish out quite easily. If it were to get a bad scratch then a lacquer coat would not protect it anyway.

I do however use a satin or mat lacquer/varnish on my grey fleet and on my steam launches and tug as i don't want a gloss on them.
