I wonder what they are going to use for photo cells to grab enough energy in the hours of daylight to power everything up for 24 hours and be small enough to fit on a relatively small hull like that and survive Atlantic conditions for the several weeks it must surely take.
Perhaps they should talk to Neil and his mates for information about model size boats on unforgiving water - their experiences on Loch Ness must yield some worthwhile clues.

I'm putting a fiver on it either sinking or getting lost. Either way, there's no way whatsoever a 20" boat could manage the atlantic {-)

That's what makes it a challenge.  My fiver would be with your fiver, but who would we get to take it on, and what sort of odds would we get?  Incidentally, the last and only time I had a proper bet on, I was assured by the father in law of a part owner of the nag that they had been assiduously building the odds on it, but in the race with my money on, it fell over somewhere between start and first, and was put down.
I know that there is a plane that can grab enough to motor through the night, but it has a gigonormous area for very little weight.  On the ocean surface, that sort of surface area could not self support and survive being swatted by a big wave.  I suspect its best chance is navigating from the West Indies to Europe along the Gulf Stream - I suspect that if launched from Europe, it will be be found, if at all, by a native Norwegian speaker.

That hull is just a proof of concept. He hasn't decided what the final hull will be, but probably nothing commercial, possibly a catamaran, just for the stability.

Cheers

A cat would be a bad idea, it'd flip and not come back the right way again...

The big problem for autonomous boats below about 10 ft long which expect to spend more than a week or so at sea is seaweed and barnacles.
