I am always really enthused by the display of lorries put on at Brighton Modelworld each year making me want to start a truck, but I have always fancied something from the forties-sixties. This naturally engenders the 'well you will have to build it yourself' response from friends who patiently listen to my eulogising! I had a Gogle a year or two back and found nothing of this era but AFV club have released a kit of the AEC Matador in 1:35th scale so maybe this will be my boost. I love your bridge Kenny, I thnk that elevation on any display e it railway or even wargaming adds so much extra dynamism especially if there are moving elements. Brilliant:O)

Thanks for the kind comments.    :}

I am at present designing a Routemaster London bus.  I have the Revell kit to guide me and will be scaling it up to the 1:14 scale to match the Tamiya stuff.

I appreciate what you say about costs as it's not a cheap hobby, but one has to look around and cobble the necessary parts together. Have a Google for the pictures of what you fancy and do a bit of research and anything's possible. The fun is in the designing and building as cheap as you can.

Best of luck

Ken

Today I took my truck to a meeting of club members. Wow is all I can say. What splendid build jobs were done. It's quite easy to get rid of a load of money if you want the best there is. Put mine to shame, that's for sure.

Here she is waiting to get on the track.   :}

Nice Scania Highline there Tug---Kenny here's a pic of my one  ;)

Nice one Mark.     :-)) :-))     ps...  I've moved your racing car item outa here.   %)

My next project is the London Bus so I'll be needing another Tamya for it's rolling chassis.

For those of you interested then the cheapest supplier is Stella models in Japan. The latest prices to your door would be around £270.  (might be cheaper if you miss import duty !!)

Cheers

Ken, I have the Scania 620 6x4 sat on the shelf doing nothing, I've also fitted  Tamiya's MFU into it.
You could always strip that down for the rolling chassis plus any other bits you may need?

I'm open to reasonable offers for it, perhaps something around the price of a nice Deans Marine kit, ready for when I'm finished the MS Vliestroom I'm doing at the mo.

Post up some pics of the London bus once you get into it, they would be great to see.

Regards
Ian

Hi Ian,

Nice to hear from you with your kind offer.  Today I placed my order with Stella for a Volvo truck as I needed a chassis with two axles.  I have also ordered the latest MFU 3 sound unit with continental lorry sounds instead of of USA sounds. Well there's Four hundred quid gone !!.    This does mean I shall not be using the body work but i can sell this on to someone else in the Internet model truck club I'm in. I shall be doing my blog over there but will post occasional pictures here, if there is any interest.

We are always swapping parts around between us and I have quite a collection of spares.  I might be interested in your set up, as I hate to see bargains pass me by. You might like to PM me privately with some better idea of a price and I can weep quietly if necessary.   :}

 Thank you for your interest.

Something to bear in mind, a built one in good nick (99% of these a shelf queens) will make almost as much as an unbuilt kit

Yes, this is the problem with them.  It's All or Nothing  in one go, unlike our boats which breaks up the expense.

I do agree with you that it causes friction... O0   Although they are reasonably sturdy, I wouldn't like a tiny Tot to be near them Da Da.     {-)

i recently bought an unbuilt kit that somebody had robbed of its wolfe transport stickers and extras , the front super singles had been swapped for standard wheels / tyres the only missing part being its tamiya motor , the kit cost me just under £200 with a preowned scania cab thrown in . its been built without the tamiya mfu , but runing an mtroniks esc with astec lighting kit . i also bought a tamiya flat bed trailer which will become a general road tanker when my mate supplies me the stainless steel tube for the barrel !

Hi Jon,

Well done on your acquisition. You'll have to join another forum now.    {-)

Here is a YouTube film of my build to show what's involved.

I fancied scratch building a tanker trailer as well and the stumbling block was the chrome tube tank.   %)

What Diameter do you need?

Thinking outside the box, have you got a custom car exhaust maker near you. They might have stainless steel tube close to the right diameter which would polish up nice and they could most probably TIG weld the end caps on for you too if you ask nicely and wave some beer tokens in front of them..

Hi Paul,

Great idea.  Thank you for that.

Referring to my snap of the Trailer, they are slightly eliptical. I suppose it's possible to crush them a bit, although stainless is quite hard.

Cheers

its normally only the spirit barrels that are elliptical , i want a general puropse barrel which are round ! weather i can fit baffles / compartments and have the ability to carry liquid remains to be seen .  i was brought up with my father working for what was a large bulk liquid haulier  based in avonmouth , so have lots of memories

Hi Ken, they have all the hydraulic pipe bending gear so I would think they could squash it slightly, after all I have seen loads of "chav chariots with moosefart exhausts" sporting exit pipes that are oval...

thats around 550 before they hit you on import tax , so possibly no cheaper than buying from a uk supplier ! thankfully my 6inch diameter stainless steel tube was collected yesterday , so the tanker build will commence shortly , i think im going to make a new chassis as i want the rear axles closer to the barrel than by using the standard tamiya profile chassis allows

Strangely I have never paid import duty on anything I have bought from japan and I have placed some fairly substantial (4 figures) orders
