Speedline 1-12 Severn
« on: November 21, 2012, 02:28:57 pm »

Dear All,

I am new to the site. Semi retired but still involved in the running of the family haulage business. I am alos a member of the Gipping Valley model boat club and I am Scale secretary for the Woodbridge model boat club.

I have a number of submarines which I have buily and thsi is my real hobby in particular German U Boats. I have a dynamic diver U47, a type 7c OTW, Vanguard OTW and a Engel Lafayette.

Have also a Robbe Atlantis which is a fantastic twin mast schooner. I also have a very large Flower class corvette.

I want to do something different and was contemplating the Sheerline Speedline 1-12 Severn. I have obtained a price but they have yet to come back to me with an answer if this includes full detailed plan sets etc. My next question does anyone have any detaled plans including cabin/cockpit details etc. that I could purchase.

I like big boats and this looks a good kit to build. Bit concerned about posts I have seen about difficulty with contacting Speedline . Good contact with suppliers to my mind is so import to the overall service and the success of the venture.

Hi Robin, firstly it is Speedline,
and yes it does make a fantastic model and very large, keep trying Adrian will contact you.
I have built the 1-16th Severn and the plans come on a disc for you to print off, so should be the same.
if you look on the web sight and take a look at the plans to give you some idea.

Hi Robin, you can order a set of plans direct from the RNLI & they will give you first class service to boot, I think the price is 35.00 pounds. Adrian I think supplies everything on disc, at least he did with my Tamar kit & also step by step instructions. It is a first class kit but Adrian can be a bit slow sometimes. Mick B.

Hi Robin

I have had my Severn 1/12th kit for a good few years and I might finally get around to starting it next year. My kit did not come with any plans and only a very basic set of instructions although a cd with plenty of photos of a full size Severn was included. No internal detail parts were included. But like I said my kit was purchased quite some time ago and it may well have been updated to include some of these items. If you can get a copy of Model Boats magazine Winter 2007 special edition there is a very useful kit review/build blog by Terry Small. I think the plans instructions for the 1/16th version would be of some use though. It does make up into a very nice model though.

Hope this helps

Richie

might be selling my 1/12 severn in the near future, got no time to build her due to work and young family and my boiler has just given up the ghost so the cash would be handy. as soon as i have fixed my home computer i will get some pics taken and pop a for sale thread up.  they are fantastic kits and build into something very special.

cheers
