So it is now down to the Painting side of this Build the one you are all waiting for.......
And it was out again with the green fine line tape to protect the My varnished deck and a total mask of the boat was called for
So it was on with the painting....and NO I have not dropped a clanger at all,the paint defects on this hull are DELIBERATE just to show what can go wrong....Believe you me and I am not being big headed in saying this but boy oh boy did I have problems doing it.....couldnt get a run etc etc ....OH stop laughing you lot
Looks ever so glossy and noce doesnt it.......DONT THINK SO
Well it does look good from 60 feet away.
1 st fault a run...now We all get these and the main thing is NOT to panic
Now what do we do when we get a run...the obvious thing is to stop spraying but is this in fact the correct thing to do....Well yes and No to be truthfull with you.2 schools of thought on this.
1st School of thought ....stop spraying let it dry thouroughly and rub it down and start again,.nothing at all wrong with that
2nd School of thought well there is a run so why not carry on give it a few more coats, obviously giving it time to dry a bit, give it around 4 coats of top coat....WHY do I say this....Well think about it,Top coat by it's nature is glossy so why not use this to your advantage,The run has got to be flatted out whichever route you take. Now I will Gtee you the run will not be in the first coat but in the second or third. Now if you are VERY unlucky there is a 99% chance of flatting that run down and polishing it back up,but do we want to do this....MMM wel Not really,If you want a super dooper finish then simply rub the paint down with either 800 of 1000 grit wet dry with any washing up liquid in it and flat it down thouroughly to a dull finish and repaint it giving the hull another 3 to 4 coats....If you want to be a flash so and so LIKE ME you will repeat this a couple of times....I will show you the depth of gloss with a ruler after the different stages so you can all see.
One thing I would defo reccomend you do if you have a run is NOT to use your fingers to get rid of it BUT use aproper sanding rubber block this will make sure it remains flat and it will not cause a dip in the paint.
Right then another problem you Might have had is little bubbles like this appear on your hull
This effect I had one heck of a job to get it to happen

...Right then what causes this and what is it called....Solvent pop, cissing to name a few.
What causes it.
1....Far to many coats of paint applied in one go
2....Not allowing enough solvent flash off....In other words being to EAGER to get on with it and appling far to many coats
3....HEAT....Yes you did read it right....Heat can be a right KILLER of paint finishes.Direct heat form the sun in summer can cause it....Hull gets to hot...Paint applied very wet gasses from solvent cant escape because the top layer has dried. This effect on Mine was Caused by far to many layers of paint being applied before the previous layer had a chance to dry(flash Off)...To be honest with you I did put of 8 coats on the hull and leaving around 1 mins between them.....I then applied heat to dry it off....Knowing exactly what was going to happen and it did spectacularly with gas bubbles appearing all over the hull.
Now what do we do when this happens.....Wait for the next thrilling instalement.
