The Big Thames Cruise 2013
« on: January 07, 2013, 08:34:58 pm »

Take One Big Model.
One Big River.
Put Them Together And You Get ........
The Big Thames Cruise.
Over 250miles Over 80 locks.
This will be one of A Team Boatyards fund raisers.
Starting on the 4th May 2013 from Caversham, ATB will be heading up the River Thames
with our 1:32 scale Type 45 Destroyer (4.8m).
We will travel all the way up to Lechlade and then back down to Teddington and then back
up to Caversham, arriving there on the 17th May 2013.
There will be many stops on the way up and of course evening sails for anybody who would
like to come and join in (details of overnights stops to be confirmed and published).
Of course we will do our upmost to stop at pubs overnight.
We are hoping to raise a heap of money for the Royal British Legion and promote the hobby
of model boating.
Keep an eye on our website http://www.ateamboatyard.co.uk/
There are many exciting things happening over the course of these two weeks so keep coming back
to the ATB website and Mayhem.
To top it all off ATB will be attending the Model Boat Mayhem weekend at Wicksteed Park with the
Type 45, or what is left of her!!!!!
Comments and suggestions are welcome.

kind regards

Thankyou Herrmill. I am sure you will be us in spirit.
We are now less than 11 weks away from the begining of this event and all of us are looking forward to it.
We have been working on the model, preparing it ready for its long cruise. At the moment we are in the process
of changing the motors and the speed controllers. We will be hoping to test her in the next week or so and we will be taking
some video when we do.

Good luck with your Thames cruise, a true example of a real challenge for our hobby!
Hope the weather stays clear whilst you are sailing but like the Mayhem at Wicksteed show I hope the vertical mist stays away! :-))

Don't leave the photos and journal up to chance, make sure someone is assigned to get it done.... it will make for several good articles for the mags and website, they'll all want a piece of it!

Also, make giving and donations as easy as possible, this site might help - http://www.justgiving.com/en/how-justgiving-works

Hi everyone,
We now have the new motors and esc's fitted in the Type45.We have run them up and they are looking good.
We were hoping to give her a test down the lake today, but the weather is a bit on the bad side.
The new battery leads have been made.A lot of soldering, but it one less job to do.
Its now only 7 week to The Big Thames Cruise and still a lot to do.

Did not push her to hard, but hit 8.2 mph average 5.6mph over 1 1/2 hours not bad for 16 foot and 350kg model ship.
Did not go over 1/4 throttle on 24volt.Less than 4 weeks to go now.Have a look for yourself.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pt7V5PV6WiQ  http://www.ateamboatyard.co.uk/
