after many years of modeling I have learnt that it is not a good idea to wear slippers in the workshop,I dropped a vice on my foot result two
broken toes! I wear steel caps now.That upset the wife as I could't drive and take her shopping.

My pearl of wisdom, never pick the soldering iron up by the hot end  >>:-(

Sean

I used to do a lot of electronic soldering in my day job, IT.
Usually to check the iron is heating up, I lift to my nose and 'smell' for heat.
.... you guess it, one day I smell too closely!
My mate, also in IT, looked at my columella (look it up!) burst out laughing and said;
  "I know exactly what you did!"   >:-o

Martin,

That is now the tactic I use, also a metal rube mounted on a post set up keeps the hot end of the iron out the way... Just dont sneeze when sniffing the iron!

Never try to open a stuck bottle of superglue with your teeth

You wouldnt believe the number of people we have phoning up about getting cyano in some very weird places....very very weird places

Ive been asked by doctors in accident emergency quite a few times about the safety of using debonder on various parts of the body....

Leave a bottle of cyano on the bench without the top on.
                   Sat on my comfy padded swivel chair last summer (?) wearing only tee shirt, shorts and flip flops, was moving a hull around the bench  - it was the fumes and smoke from my shorts and seat padding that made me realise I'd knocked over the cyano, was well stuck and my thigh was getting more than a tad warm. Ever tried getting out of a pair of shorts stuck to a swivel chair? Well --- fall over to one side, try to miss the wall and wriggle out as best you can without getting stuck to the rest of the glue on the floor.  Missus was of no help, heard the commotion saw me on the floor starkers (no nicks) and laughed her socks off - very funny - its now become on of her "do you remember when" tales.   {:-{ {:-{

Don't spend hours and hours finishing a model-it was actually a diorama-and then, because it was a beautiful day I left it outside in the shade to dry, get rid of the final paint-fumes. Forgot about and then 3 hours later go outside and find that some git has gone and nicked it! >:-o
So, always keep ya model in a safe place.

If you want to Google it, it's called "Sugru".
   Plenty of good ideas on the site for what you can do with it.

This stuff is great , go buy some from there website, its cheap as hell like 11 quid for 5 packs... You can make your own as well, I think its cornstarch, silicon rubber and food coloring. You can also make silicon rubber molds with this, so its very useful if you have that one part that you just want to reproduce for a model. The price is not comparable to silicon mold rubber mixes though they are cheaper than Sugru, but Sugru is far far far less messy.... ! Worth having a little kicking about...

Don't get distracted when cutting ply with a new blade in the knife I did this and cut a sizeable chunk clean off I did not feel it at the time I did feel it when cold water was used to try and stop the bleeding, needless to say that did not work so it was off to a walk in centre it still did not hurt then a few days after it was hurting like hell
