Robbe Kardan couplings?
« on: January 20, 2014, 09:18:26 am »

Morning gents,

I have a question for you...how on earth do you assemble these chuffin' couplings? I've been trying for a whole day, and no matter what I try, the damn things will not go together!

The language is getting worse every time I try to pop the little centre joiner in, I've dropped the things on the floor, and now I've broken a fingernail!

Somebody help me before I shoot myself!

It looks simple enough.

What can possibly go wrong.     {-)     Try some sticky tape and look for the pins.

Cheers

It should be a simple little two minute job...is it heck as like.  >>:-(

Just pop the pins into the holes and push them in...yea, right. There's no give in the couplings themselves, and the little pins are more than capable of snapping off if you push too hard(don't ask me how I found that out...more bad language) <:(

I use a small bench vice.  Apply gentle pressure when the bearings are held in place with the fingers and push the pin through slowly down through the centre.     O0

Hadn't thought of using the vice...right, I'll finish my tea, and give that a try.

Cheers Ken,

Failing that, how about a sit in some hot water to temporarily soften the plastic, used to work for r/c car universals.

Is there a hole in the 'spider' part of the coupling?
I stuck something in that last time I assembled one and that gave me a lot of leverage....

I have succeeded...I swapped the horrible Robbe spiders for a pair of Krick steel ones, they fitted a treat. Ten seconds later and I have two freely revolving couplings, ten minutes later and my Z drives are a' turning.
Who suggested putting the couplings in hot water? Silly, silly boy...I did that, when I took them out I burnt me chuffin' fingers  >>:-(   <*<

Cheers chaps, all is good.
