LINER, AGROUND AND LEFT TO BREAK UP AND ROT.
« on: March 08, 2014, 02:18:53 pm »

I got hold of a very cheap, part-made (badly) plastic model liner, she had many parts missing and no way could she have been a nice shelf sitter. So, what to do? Yep, just another excuse to do a wreck...Ian will be pleased  %%

The ship was re-assembled as best I could, painted and then 'distressed' and hacked in half. Once complete a serious of rust pigments and washes were added, once dry a cotton bud was used with a little white-spirit to take back the rust to show the stained white superstructure in places. Bow and midsection mounted and stern area mounted on board and some sealant added to set the pieces on the board, this will then be built up. The board is to finish and just some final touches to the ship and some more water effects to create.

These pictures are taken in natural light and give it a nice bleached effect that shows off the model better, well I think it does.

You just keep surpassing yourself Si  :-)) :-)) :-))

You have got me looking round for old unfinished
plastic kits to have a go myself.

Thanks Ned, I am waiting for a larger work area to start converting my RC barge into a narrow-boat but until then they are just stored so it is messing about with model kits. Glad you like it, was unsure of the angle of the bow, too high, but in the end I thought it like a defiant jab at the sky.

Would love to see what you come up with. O0

Thanks Martin, all it is a pre-painted board in grey and ocean blue and just good old clear sealant, to get the foaming agitation effect all you do is use a stiff small brush and cold water, dip your brush into the cold water and then swirl the sealant; the cold water reacts with sealant, clumps it and turns it more opaque. The other water effects are liquid water in a gel form that you heat up and then just apply with a brush.

Naw - this ones upright.  %) :P

Could put some pumish stone at the bows to create the rocks - for the age of the vessel (looks 50's style) passengers would not of been airlifted - still absolute perfect detailing   :-))

LOL...true  {-)

It is actually the Queen Mary, 1934 and operated until 1967, but the part made model was battered so stripped back, repainted and then weathered, nice tip regarding use of pumice stone. Was in two minds if to add some rocks or not as I liked the contrast between the wreck and the blue sea, but you have given me food for thought. Glad you like it.

Pumish as it light (don't what to break your back having to lift it  {-) ) and porous to allow it to be fixed, something for the glue to stick to  :-))
