TonyO travelled nearly 300 miles to display, and I travelled nearly 400 miles to display. One of my models (not made by me!!!) one 1st in her class, and the LBES Stand that TonyO displayed on won best club exhibit.I am sure both of us would have been just as happy to show our models even had we not won anything. My prize winning model.......

With Haydock just two months beforehand and Warwick barely a fortnight afterwards one wonders about the prospects for this show's continuing. After some of the comments I've heard and read I wouldn't blame Mark W or the local clubs for chucking the whole shebang up in the air and walking away, leaving someone else to catch what they can of what's left. I suspect that the CADMA folk have had that experience already this year ref the Doncaster show.

So before anyone starts compiling a litany of gripes about the forthcoming Warwick show, be aware in advance that:
  • It's £9.50 on the door and that there is an £8.50 concession for pensioners. Both are £1 cheaper if you book on-line in advance, right up until the Sunday of the show. If you consider that's too much for you then fine, but at least you were warned.
  • This is a professional show, run by Meridienne Exhibitions for commercial profit; it isn't an "at cost" affair put on by a club or small group of traders. The rent for a trade stand is approx £500 per 3m frontage; the hire of chairs, tables and electricity is extra, so don't expect big "show" discounts.
  • The people behind the trade stands are there to sell their goods; customers who stand back and wait to be served may not be noticed, especially at very busy times. This is neither sloppy nor deliberate. Later in the day is always the best time if you want advice and/or prolonged attention.
I mean no offence by any of this but I do want folk to be clear about what to expect - especially those who haven't been before - so that there is minimal scope for whingeing after the event. That said, I think it's the biggest and best show of the year and I would be very disappointed if I were unable to attend.

and lastly my newly acquired 1/12th scale model Lifeboat(not made by me!) which was displayed on the LBES stand and demonstrated on the pool Thames Class "Rotary Service"
This is just to emphasize, that all 3 of the models I have posted were at the show, and were just some of many that had not been seen before
Thanks,

All very well going to the Warwick Show as an exhibitor IF YOU ARE ALLOWED !! Last years theme was actually Cunard, and they could not fit me in! I was trying to enter as a loner but apparently only club entries were allowed.Again this year I could not enter my two models.I am now a member of a club, and will try to enter for next year for one final time.I exhibited with the LBES previously, but felt these two models of mine should be seen in tribute to the late builder of them Wilf Burrows.,a great modeller and friend.

it puzzles me Davew that you admit that it was your first trip to this show............so how can you comment that there was a lack of traders and not a lot of new stuff.......when you have sod all to compare it with.............or are you just going with the flow of the other wingers and moaners that whinge and moan about the show every year..............and why do they keep going, because they want to whinge about something!!!!!.............get a grip on life you whingers...........if you don't like the show don't go...................simples.........then others who do want to go to it, won't be put off by your moaning and groaning.................it's a show where I can catch up with old friends from both on and off line....................and just get totally peeee'd off by those half empty glass type people who have sod all else in their lives other than to moan about something or other. >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( <*< <*< <*< <*< <*< >:-o >:-o >:-o

Right then ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

OK Fair comment about lack of signage in the hotel about the show POINT taken.

Toilets were far better this year.

Lighting was also addressed...OK NOT perfect but a big improvement on Previous years

Tables Being MOVED during the show...NOT TRUE as it was BEFORE 10 am I know htis as it was ME that was moving them !

Right lets get a few FACTS right here as Believe you ME you are so far wrong in your ASSUMPTIONS that there was a LACK Of traders......

FACT of the Matter is there was 22 TRADERS at the show................MMMM Lack of traders was stated.....MMMM...Funny thing is are YOU LOT going to COMPLAIN about the lack of TRADERS at the WARWICK show.....go on I DARE you as there are ONLY 22 TRADERS attending that show....................MMMMMM intersting fact isnt it

Fair Comment about the lack of Clubs attending the show..........BUT I will THROW it back in your faces ....get YOUR clubs to attend then THEN No one can complain.

You dont have to be a club member to show your boats off  !!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for the same boats attending the show well heck will you ALL complain about the same boats in Warwick.

MMMM Same boats in Elsmere Port show.

MMMM same boats at Haydock.

MMMMM same boats at Coalville.

MMMM same boats at Mayhem whatever show we ALL attend you will find very much the same group of clubs.

MMMM there is a PATTERN appearing here.

Now someone has stated why on earth do we carry on with putting the  show on...This is ELLEMENTARY DEAR WATSON.

IF WE DIDNT CARRY ON WITH RUNNING THE SHOW YOU LOT WOULD COMPLAIN.

I will set the knockers of ANY show and boy oh boy there are MANY, A challenge

Have the courage of your convictions and RUN YOUR OWN SHOW.

Show everyone HOW GOOD YOU ARE.

I will PUT MONEY on it NOT a single one of you will Have the GONADS to do so....and that is FACT NOT FICTION.

The show MIGHT well be moving venue next year hopefully to a venue that has a lake on it so you can sail your boats to your hearts content still in the Blackpool catchment area.

RANT OVER

well said dave........and I applaud you for taking a stand, as I have done.................

when you get one whinger asking why should he display a model when he is a visiting public, it sort of crashes and burns his argument and whinging..............

we are all visiting public at these shows, but some of us try hard to show our models , whether they have been there once or a dozen times.........it makes no difference.......people like looking at them...........and if you want to see some new models.......then get b****y building and show yours............or as I said earlier.........put up or shut up!!!! >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-(

Totally agree with you Dave.
Toilets and lighting are down to the hotel, not the show organisers. Why all the complaints previously about the lighting? After you have been in the hall for a few minutes you dont even notice any different.ALL public toilets smell after 100s of people use them, and these were cleaned.Couldnt have been SOME of the people who used them with bad aims and habits left them like that could it? I really appreciate the extremely hard work and hours, and mental and physical energy that goes on in producing such a large show. And the worries of being able to cover such a high cost of putting it on.So all you whingers, will we have a record turnout of new models and exhibitors next year because you are all going to enter? We shall see wont we!!! Lets have some positive praise here!!

I can already hear the voices.....

"It's too windy to sail"
"No-one told me it was salt-water"
"There's no ruddy catering"
"The burgers are expensive/greasy/disgusting/all three"
"It's miles to the nearest chippy"
"I can't use that for a toilet!"
"I had to walk nearly a hundred yards with my boat......it's not fair on us old 'uns"
"HOW MUCH TO GET IN??? It was only a couple of pounds last year"
"Why isn't so-and-so here? I wanted to buy a XYZ"
"I've seen that model here for the last twenty years at least"
"You might have said that the car parking wasn't included in the price of admission. I am on a pension, you know"
"He's got the camouflage all wrong for the 1942 refit, and there were never four 0.5 machine guns; it was two and a Bofors"

and my very favourite...............

"Is that your best price??"   >>:-(

Stavros - you're beginning to find out what a lot of us have known for quite a long time. If you can't please any of the people any of the time then just please yourself. It hurts less afterwards.  8)

There's quite a few different threads about this show. Have you checked all of them?  %)
