I have spoken to veterans who were on the Normandy Landings,and have been told by more than one  that the opening 15 minutes of the film "Saving Private Ryan" were about as near to what it was like on the beach,as you will ever see.

Not seen 'Saving Private Ryan' but I have visited Omaha Beach on several occasions and from the top it is very clear indeed just what an appalling task the Americans had in assaulting the German defences. The American Cemetery overlooking the beach is something that no visitor will ever forget.

Tough one! Battle of Britain was the first to spring to mind (it made a big impression when I first saw it - I think I was about 14) but Das Boot and Kelly's Heroes must be up there. Still haven't seen Saving Private Ryan - must rectify that.
