CCTV?
« on: April 14, 2014, 12:52:19 pm »

Anyone know anything about CCTV?

I've been tasked with fixing or replacing this domed camera, that has stopped working....
It doesn't seem to have any make or model No. on it, (just lens info).
 Are most CCTV cameras interchangeable?
Are all the wiring system compatible or are they propitiatory?

Tanks!

from what little I know of them martin,
there are lots of issues with all the different types:
12v, 24v, 48v and 240v units. some have zoom, some don't
is it a fibre, Coaxial or even a multi-pair (telephone) cable required
and then it depends on the type of connection to run the control keyboard to the camera

do what I do and make a call  O0 O0

If that is a pan and tilt mechanism there should be makers details on the control unit,
or failing  that an installers label.

And if you can't get it working the mechanism should make an excellent turret control :)

By the look of it I would guess it's a standard fixed 12vdc or 24vac dome with a disconnected motorised zoom, hopefully you have either a screened multicore or shotgun cable ( coax / power ) feeding it in which case just stick a meter on the power leads, read voltage, visit the e of Bay and purchase replacement . If in doubt locate the power supply feeding it and check voltage there or send me a pic of the connections on the camera, you should have something like Red + v ,Black - v, yellow ( or coax inner ) video feed to dvr / monitor / space shuttle etc.

You could put a multimeter across the back of it if the circuit is still live. If not and there is another camera in the system, you could put the multimeter across the back of the second camera.
That at least would give you the voltage.

I am not sure if these things have software to run them (tilt, pan zoom). If so it might be better to replace the system, hopefully using the existing wiring.
