The her night smudger set me a challenge when he asked me if I could help him make a Delta plough.............and so with plasticard in hand tonight I set about making one so that I could mould it in resin.....it might be a little thicker in gauge than the Speedline brass etched ones but with a little sanding and filling before they are moulded and then sanded again  once cast in resin, then  they shouldn't be too bad.......and besides I need a couple for my own Mersey when I eventually get around to building it. lol

Have only ever seen them from photos too ken....and the little plan printed on a previous post.
making them to cast in resin I have had to thicken the walls of the anchor and bracket, but once cast these can be sanded down to thin the plating out considerably and make them look a little more decent......they'll never be Speedline quality or thin gauge but from 20 meters out on the lake, they'll satisfy those that can't afford a full sheet of etched brass.
also paid another visit to the boat house at St Annes to take some shots of it from underside to get the sole of the anchor and where the strengthening bar shown on the plan fits.

so now finished and ready for moulding in rubber.

and if anyone has missed my blogs on moulding and mould making in the past on my lifeboats....here's how I do it.
1) make a box from lego.

2) line the bottom of the box with modelmakers plastecine to a deapth of around 8mm thickness.

3) place the pieces to be moulded onto the plastecine and with a little pressure.....press the master into the plastecine and smooth around the perimeter edges to make sure there are no gaps between the master and the edge of platecine which would allow weepage of the rubber mix under the master.

4) block up any ends with a wodge of plastecine so as to isolate the underside.

now you have a half mould where the rubber can't get underneath the master at any point.

5)put a pencil or end of craft knife into the plastecine....these indentations act as locating lugs for the two haves of the rubber mould.......what will appear as indents now will result in nodules of rubber sticking up from the first half.

6) then build up the walls higher than the highest part of the mould masters.

then its just a case of pouring in the first half of the rubber mould..............this will be done tomorrow.

mould half came out ok except for a little "bleed" under one "foot" of the holding bracket.............this was cut off and then the whole surface covered with Vaseline as a release agent between the two layers of rubber.......the second layer has now been poured into the mould box and will hopefully be cured later.........

Hi Neil,

Thanks for that - will do as you suggest.
The new boat (The Morrell) seems to be a superb bit of kit but there was something special about Pride and Spirit.
Will contact you direct.

However, we have one just down the road, at St Annes on Sea which I was at the naming ceremony of some years back and have decided, when I get round to it, build her.

cheers all the same, neil. :-))

Guys...... :o ...if I didn't know better......I would think they look like pieces of battered European Carp that Neil caught a few years back in our muddy Murray river

Naturally enough.......the fire & frypan in OZ consists of a few branches of Gum tree with a cut off 5 gallon drum of kangaroo, possum & pig fat as the dripping  {-).....Derek
