Machine gun colour?
« on: November 07, 2014, 01:38:45 pm »

The Spandau machine gun is finished, but what colours would I paint it?

I guess the bullet belt box would be a standard Army khaki green, but what about the gun itself? And the bullets and belt? Any ideas, guys?

Just found this on the Sussex Model Centre website...

''Tip...After painting your machine gun in matt black, sand down an HB pencil lead into a small pile of graphite.
Dip your finger in the graphite and rub the gun all over. This gives a burnished gun metal grey effect, and picks out the high spots bringing the whole thing to life.''

I'd forgotten about that method!

I used to use that technique when I was a lad.  Word of advice tho, if the gun is to be handled in any way then it you will needs to use a layer of matt varnish or it will rub off

From my army days, guns and mags were not painted over, but left in the original black.
Some parts were painted, but this was done in manufacture.
