VOSPER RAF FIRE FLOAT BUILT FROM SCRAP BALSA
« on: April 17, 2015, 04:16:15 pm »

Hi

Just finished off the fire boat which was built from free plans which I downloaded from the KK EezeBilt Boat Kits website.

Believe it or not it was going to be the MTB but when I began to read through all the bits and pieces on the website, I caught eye on the Vosper - so I decided to have a go at this one, while we wait for paint to dry on my other model and get a bit more inspiration to carry on the build.

For anyone wishing to build this particular model from this website may I stress you read all the way through what Dodgie Geezer (the site organiser) has put on.   Cos, as normal (a typical modeller) I started on the model before I read the instructions - and my first attempt ended up in the bin.

The best thing to do is to print off all the bits and pieces from the plans and rather than cut and paste them out onto the building material - is paste the cut out bits from the plans onto Cardboard so you can actually work out where the bits go/what you need.   That was my first mistake - I pasted all the bits of plans onto the balsa wood and started cutting out.

The only thing Dodgy Geezer (if you are reading this) I would suggest - you know how Airfix type of kits have an 'exploded' plan view or where bits and pieces go together - that sort of drawing on your website - would be an ideal help.

I am powering the model with an 'old' MFA rocket 400 motor with a 7.4 volt battery and I am using a Graupner Regler Navy V15R speed controller.  She has a 30 mm prop.   The prop shaft is a 2 mm propshaft from hobbyshop off Ebay,.

Looks very nice, I have all those Eezibilt plans saved for one day when I get around to building them. Why was there an issue when you pasted to the wood, what was wrong?

Hi ya

The issue was that there was an amendment sheet which had corrections to the actual design of the hull.   There are no instructions with the amendment sheet to clearly outline what not and what to use - so - by gluing the bits of plan onto the cardboard first you can work out what bits you need and what you don't need.

What I did originally was try to cut all the bits out as I needed them and ended up cutting all the wrong bits out which I didn't need and tried to use them - if there were an exploded plan view of the bits - you would soon realise what bits you do need - or do the intelligent thing and read all the way through.  So what I had done was cut all the bits out which I needed, plus the amended bits and ended up with spare bits if you know what I mean :-) hence it didn't all fit together as it should.

aye
