Soft solder in place, then remove pipe. Hold together on the bench with fire cement then silver solder. Clean up and refit.
Thanks Brian.

Your suggestion is the best and simplest so far. Unfortunately the metal tube is too thick and long to be heated enough using a soldering iron. It would require a blow torch to get it hot enough even for soft soldering.

Just for clarification....... silver solder flux + silver solder take over a soft soldered joint  :o

Use JB Weld (the slow cure version). It is good for approximately 650℉

Hello all.

The flanges are shaped and taped in place, (just until the screws arrive from China).
Exhaust tail pipes are angled and water nipples fitted.

Being as the fit is nigh perfect I am going to use the fire cement method.
Here are some pictures.

Absolutely JB weld would work great, I’ve seen people use it to patch nitro engine blocks.

How about using blobs of RTV to hold the stuff together from one side, leave to set then solder from the other.  If you're worried about parts sticking to other parts of the hull then cover them in patches of parcel tape before using the RTV.  Not much sticks to brown parcel tape and I use it all the time for moulding / protecting parts!  Fire clay etc would probably work the same way as RTV.

You gotta try things for yourself though.  That's what modelling is all about!

All done now and the fire cement worked perfectly.

They need a thorough buffing ready for the chroming, unfortunately, I don't have the wherewithall to do this as no buffing wheel but should be able to find
find someone who has.

Here are a couple of not very good pictures.

The guys doing the chrome will probably want to do the buffing themselves.
